It's week number three of my rock-band-as-a-blog. This week: Many a great pop song has been written about having a crush on a pretty girl who happens to be pure evil. Enjoy our new song about White House Press Secretary/Apologist and hottie Dana Perino.
Max and the Marginalized write and record one song per week and post every Thursday. Archives are here.
Dana, Dana
The doors swing open, the tape recorders turn on
They nod their heads like bespectacled automatons
But for the record I think that it should be known
The camera loves you more than the microphone
But still I play along
Despite the fact that I disapprove
'Cause for one reason or another every time you come on
I have to turn off the sound and watch your mouth move
Dana, Dana, how can you explain away this mess that we're in
Fighting off the questions with a wink and a grin
I don't blame them, I don't blame them for taking it
Dana, Dana, there's something special in the way you deemphasize
I see the burning bodies in your pretty blue eyes
But I can't take it, I get taken every time
You smile politely and answer curtly and quick
My heart flutters and my stomach, my stomach gets sick
But nonetheless I have to show some approbation
You put the very best face on a very bad situation
But I'm a fool, I admit
I'm making that explicitly clear
And maybe if we sat around and talked about
You'd lean over and say "I just work here"
Dana, Dana, how can you explain away this mess that we're in
Fighting off the questions with a wink and a grin
I don't blame them, I don't blame them for taking it
Dana, Dana, there's something special in the way you deemphasize
I see the burning bodies in your pretty blue eyes
But I can't take it, I get taken every time
My heart isn't in it, but my eyes they can't look away
Deliver the line and they'll print it
And it'll say just what you'd like it to say
And no matter which way you spin it, it will collapse in the usual way
There's a sucker born every minute
But I wasn't born yesterday
Dana Dana, how can I explain away the feeling I get
My teeth get grinding and my hands start to sweat but I
I won't let you, I won't let you in tonight
Dana Dana, despite the way you look at me it's hard to ignore
The killing that you're partially responsible for
No I, I won't take it, I won't take it anymore

The lyrics are good and the music is textbook 3 chord rock. In other words, the lyrics are more valuable as a poem without the music.
To a great extent, it is Dana Perino's job. She probably agrees with Dubya's misguided and borderline criminal policies to accept her position. However, she is given most of the information she disseminates to the White House Press Corps.
I take exception to Dana Perino described as "pure evil". George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, George Tenet, Paul Wolfowitz, Paul Bremer, Osama Bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and others in their category are appropriately considered evil.
Fault her for siding with Dubya but accusing her of being "pure evil" is criticism destructive to liberal and progressive causes.

Thanks so much for writing and posting these gems every week. Terrific song.
Let's look at the pattern here and take inventory of who these people have so far offered up as the media face of American totalitarianism:
1. Ari Fleischer. Fresh-faced, extremely white GOP true believer, dedicated to telling you an egregious lie that anyone with an IQ of 60 would know is an egregious lie, but with an underlying air of menace of a young GOP Niedermayer type ("watch what you say");
2. Scott McClellan. The next level of Fleischer; even whiter and more doughy young nerd, who, like some sort of Aryan Buckingham Palace guard with no human expression whatsoever, parrots the talking points, PERIOD. No matter WHAT is said from the audience. A monument to self-control, not to mention arrogance and disdain;
3. Tony Snow. The doo-doo got deeper for this administration, so they threw the reporters... a media guy like them! Granted, a Fox News propagandist, who had subbed for Rush Limbaugh.... but gee, one of their fellow Kewl Kidz!
The lies and intimidation to which he subjected them were always delivered in his trademark snotty way, the subliminal punch line being, "See? The other two were also more clever than you are, but you can't dislike ME! I'm One of You! I'm on TV!"
And what better contempt could he have demonstrated than to quit the job, because, sigh, he just wan't making enough money (do YOU make as much as he did?);
4. Dana. Look over here! A pretty chick! It's all in the song.
