Not Just Hope and Change, But Justice Too

We're crossing our fingers that Obama's effort to bring the country together won't stop him from bringing to justice those who have broken a host of laws in tearing it apart.

Unfortunately, in our political system, once a "reformer" obtains significant power and a place within the "machine", their zeal for that reform seems to morph into empty rhetoric. The results of the 2006 election would seem to be an excellent example. Our compromised congress claims that justice is a slow, tedious process, but congress passed the "Patriot Act' and the "Force Memorandum" with amazing speed. When it comes to making bad decisions they are capable of instant action, good decisions, not so much.

I think Mr. Obama has signaled pretty clearly what he intends to do about cleaning up the criminal Bushies by repeatedly saying his politics are the new politics and he intends to move past old fights. This was one of the reasons I was not a fan during the primaries and along with his FISA vote and his plan to increase the involvement of religion in our government have kept me from being a fan in the general election. Although I will vote for him, I have no illusion that we're going to get the substantive change that he led everyone to believe he was all about in the primaries. I'll be working for a down ticket candidate who really does have a progressive agenda.

It would probably be a good idea to keep the intentions on the down low until after the election, don't you think?
They've already been crying about how the Dems are going to "get all partisan" and "try" to hold Repugs responsible "for all kinds of 'imagined' wrongs"...as though it is just a silly political 'misunderstanding'.

Oh, I have no problem with Obama doing that on the d/l - just saying that i hope he is, and we would like to see some public pressure for that to happen.
