Don't Call It a Comeback

Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, said: "You can't live in the past in the NFL. And you can't live too far in the future. You have to live in the now."

I heard that a great quarterback should have many different traits. The top three are toughness, intelligence, and a heart. I also heard great quotes from different quarterbacks about their success. Going back in time, when Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, suffered his shoulder injury, he thought, "You can't live in the past in the NFL. And you can't live too far in the future. You have to live in the now."

Trying to be successful at anything can be a bumpy ride, and I don't expect any shortcuts and I probably do not want any shortcuts to help me get there. I bet most NFL quarterbacks think about their road to success at least once in a while. So please, let's try to forget about the past and not look too far into the future so that we don't forget what is right in front of us.

In the beginning of every football season, each NFL player goes into their locker room thinking about one main goal -- winning the Super Bowl. They want to hold the Lombardi Trophy; to be called World Champions. Each player that is a New York Jet should go to work thinking that the main goal is winning the next Super Bowl. But after the average 8-8 season the Jets went through, the players cannot get too caught up into their future. They did get too caught up in the future, which caused them to not live in the present, which forced them to lose the current game that day.

When they lost eight games, it felt like everything was over even though it wasn't. The regular season games are not the Super Bowl. Even though those games get you a game closer to the Super Bowl, Gang Green had to think about the present in order to see their future. Because they did not live in the now, certain players are stuck with thinking about the past and what could have happened and what they could have done differently to win more games. It is hard to ignore the past, especially if you are a member of the Jets. "Same old Jets" is what is in the Jets past. Even though each player tries to get rid of it and think about greater future sayings, they cannot escape it.

It's nice to think the Jets took fans back to back to the AFC Championship games. But I am ready now to move forward. That's the past and this is the present. Right now the Jets are beginning free agency, and right around the corner the 2012-2013 season will begin and each team will be 0-0. So please, do not call it a comeback for the New York Jets.
