Originally from Naranjo, Alajuela, Costa Rica, Mayra Hidalgo Salazar immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 6-months-old. She is undocumented and has dedicated her life to the immigrant justice movement in Florida. She is based out of Lakeland, Florida where she has served her community through various immigrant rights organizations such as Students Working for Equal Rights (SWER), the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC), and Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON). She currently serves as Board Treasurer on the United We DREAM Network (UWD) Board of Directors.
