Melanie Fitzpatrick, a climate scientist with UCS' Climate Program, analyzes the impact of global warming around the United States.

Dr. Fitzpatrick worked for many years with the Australian Antarctic Program and at the Earth and Space Sciences Department at the University of Washington in Seattle. Over the last 15 years, she has spent time in Greenland and Alaska and conducted research projects in Antarctica. She also was an expert reviewer for two of the Nobel-prize winning U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's reports.

Dr. Fitzpatrick completed her bachelor's degree in physics at the University of Sydney and the Australian National University in Canberra. She earned a doctorate degree in geophysics at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she focused on the relationship between sea ice and clouds and climate.

Dr. Fitzpatrick has been cited by a number of Australian publications, including the Sun Herald, Sydney Morning Herald and the Age. She also has appeared on ABC News and SBS News in Australia and WBZ-TV in Boston.
