What to Wear in Whiplash Weather

It's warm! Break out the sandals. It's cold! Why didn't I wear my boots today? It's that moment of spring where every day holds a surprise and you pay more attention to the morning forecast than your horoscope. So what's a girl to do to stay climate controlled and in style?

2012-04-18-layering.jpgAn early winner in the spring trend sweeps on the streets of NYC is colored denim (a head nod to the duchess of Cambridge for popularizing a very particular shade of coral). Not only do you get a nice burst of color, but jeans are that magical weight of clothing that helps you deal with 30 degree swings in temperature in a given day. Whether skinny or looser and cuffed, these look good with blazers and blouses for work with heels or striped sailor shirts and flats for the weekend.

Other key items include the ubiquitous army jacket for layering, a lightweight woven cashmere scarf in a fun print to tie it all together, and extra pair of tights stashed in your purse in case bare legs are too much to bear as a warm day turns into a chilly night.

And remember, layers, layers, layers! You can always peel off a jacket or cardigan when the sun peaks out, but if you misread your forecast, you're still covered.
