Why Does Joe Lieberman Continue to Stand With Hagee?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

On Thursday, Senator Joe Lieberman not only announced his intention to speak at a conference hosted by the controversial pastor Reverend John Hagee, but he continued to defend and praise Hagee in spite of his offensive statements disparaging to victims of the Holocaust.

When Reverend Hagee made the detestable claim that Adolf Hitler "was a hunter" sent by God to spur the Jews to migrate to the land of Israel, Senator John McCain rightly withdrew his support and denounced Hagee's remarks. At that time, Senator McCain's also rejected Reverend Hagee's endorsement, which McCain had actively sought in the past.

Far from distancing himself from Reverend Hagee in any way, however, Senator Lieberman has issued a statement that reads: "I believe that Pastor Hagee has made comments that are deeply unacceptable and hurtful. I also believe that a person should be judged on the entire span of his or her life's works."

Senator Lieberman knows better. His in-laws survived the Holocaust. I cannot understand how he can justify standing alongside a man who preaches that the murderers of millions of Jews somehow had a divine purpose.

On August 4, 1943, my five-and-a-half year old brother -- my mother's son -- was gassed at Auschwitz together with his father and our grandparents. The idea that God decreed, for any reason, that my brother and over a million other Jewish children should be brutally murdered by the Nazis in gas chambers, terminal medical experiments, typhus epidemics, and through deliberate starvation is a theological abomination in and of itself. Rev. Hagee's belief that my brother's murderers were God's agents is an obscenity, and his perverse suggestion that God willed the Holocaust in order to force Jews to immigrate to Israel perversely turns the Zionist ideal into a nightmare.

Since Rev. Hagee apparently continues to believe that Hitler was an agent of God -- he certainly has neither renounced nor apologized for his offensive views -- Senator Lieberman's decision to share a platform with Reverend Hagee is deeply troubling, bordering on offensive. I understand that Reverend Hagee has a constituency that Senator Lieberman does not wish to alienate, but there are times when political pragmatism must yield to moral imperatives. The joint appearance will certainly not legitimize Reverend Hagee, but it will, sadly, tarnish Senator Lieberman's image.

Why?
He's going to be irrelevant after this election and he knows it so he's sucking up now to anyone and everyone who might keep him in the news.

Lieberman's "image" has already been tarnished. In fact, I'd go further...his reputation has been ruined. But that happened a long time ago when he switched parties in order to run for and remain in the Senate. His raw ambition is comparable to the Clintons. To see him walking around Iraq with McCain and defending McCain...as well as interpreting for him...is to see not a Democrat...not a Liberal nor an Independent...but the worst kind of Republican.

Lieberman from Max Blumenthal,
"I want to take to opportunity to describe Pastor Hagee in the terms the Torah used to describe Moses," Lieberman declared. "He is an Ish Elohim. A man of God. And those words really do fit him. And I have something else," the senator continued. "Like Moses, he's become the leader of a mighty multitude. Even greater than the multitude that Moses led from Egypt to the Promised Land."

Lieberman supports Hagee because Evangelicals like Hagee put tremendous poitical pressure on shoring up Isreals existence , since their vision of the final days are dependent upon the Jewish return and restablishment of a jewish homeland..They are even going so far as attemtping to clone/ create create a red Calf which is another sign of the final days.If it doesn't happen on its own they are determined to create an apocalypse, so they finally sneer 'We told you so"

Just like zionists their only loyalty is to their own religious delusions and not to America or the world as a whole.

When peace is finally won in the Mid East the virulent anti Semitism within the Christian fundamentalist community will rear its ugly head. An Israel at peace means no rapture and no end to our world. Joe Lieberman, Hagee and his like are traitors to Israel and the USA.

Whether you embrace Jesus or not, a phrase that is attributed to him is very apropos: "By their fruits shall ye know them."

Anyone can spout evil in the name of God, or can destroy lives in the name of God, but "the truth is not in them" and they should bear in mind that "God is not mocked."

I do not listen to these evil words and no one should give them any credence or attention. Whether they are doing this for crass political purposes, to grab their fifteen minutes of fame, or because they are truly stone-hearted, I know not and I care not.

"God is not mocked."

How do you tell a devout person of Jewish persuasion from a rightwing fundamentalist Zionist?

Joe Lieberman.

How do you tell a principled politician from a Zionist zealot who uses his country's political machinery for his own ideological gains?

Joe Lieberman.

Let's just call it like it is.

It's politics as usual, on the backs of innocents and communities.

JOE LIEBERMAN; "I also believe that a person should be judged on the entire span of his or her life's works."

Except when its the Rev. Wright, why his military sevice as a Marine in Vietnam. His service as a Naval corpsman at Bethesda Naval Hospital, and his community service on Chicago's south side that does not and should not count because he said GDA!

Joe Lieberman votes for the war, but he will not serve his country in uniform. Is there anything else you need to know about this pathetic individual?

Not bad, not bad.
I believe that "putz" or "schmeckle" would also be appropriate.

I find Lieberman a total enigma. He has actually been elected into office and yet appears to go against everything he stood for at one time and it is almost like he is thumbing his nose at those who dared to not back him when he lost. He was on TV not long ago talking about how far the Democratic Party has strayed from what he feels are its original roots and yet he does not behave in a way that indicates any kind of moral high ground. He needs people around him like he is to McCain, whispering in his ear the right things to do because his hubris gets the better of him and he behaves like a fool.

Many Jews continue to exploit the deaths of Jews in Germany for political gain and to maintain support for Israels ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians, invasions and destruction of other Arab/Persian nations in the region and the Jewish nations Apartheid system of oppression and suffering --- so, what's the difference between those Jews, Lieberman and Hagee?

There is no difference.

Hagee isn't the only religious fanatic lying and distorting and revising history to suit his own agenda; this is what all Zionists do.

Israel was created by the UN 60 years ago (yes, the organization you anti-semites love so much) and so was a Palestinian state. A million Jews were expelled forcibly from Arab lands and the Israelis tried to hold on to their Arab citizens. The fact that the Palestinians do not have their own country over a half century later is solely the fault of their crooked leaders and their own hatreds. There will be peace in that area when Hamas and their ilk agrees that Israel should exist. Until that time they will continue to live in their own induced squalor.

This site is crawling with hatred. People wonder why Jews fear Obama. I do not believe him to be personally anti-semitic but his core of support as demonstrated her certainly is.
