Well, just as I was starting to feel overwhelmed by the inappropriate, childish petulant behavior of our President,...just as I was about to throw up my hands in utter despair of ever understanding the sense behind anything coming from any employee of The White House, I find myself overjoyed today by the President's remarks in defense of Donald Rumsfeld.
Like so many armchair critics, I was making the mistake of evaluating George W. Bush by the wrong set of standards. Certainly by Presidential standards he falls far short. But as he defended Donald Rumsfeld, we learned something very important. In that special way Mr. Bush has of simplifying every complicated issue and making it one dimensional so that we can all understand it more clearly, today we learned that he does not , in fact, see himself as The President. Rather, he is The Decider. And as I seem to recall from the time I spent in elementary school, The Decider gets to say what happens and you don't. So you better shut up or you're out.
Now all we need to do is rewrite the Constitution to better delineate the role of The Decider in a bicameral legislature, (as well the role of his very best friend The Co-Decider and all those other people who hang out with the Deciders and think they're soooo cool) and I think the behavior of George W. Bush, our beloved 43rd Decider of the United States of America, will finally make more sense.
And if it doesn't, we can always get the help we need from Scott McClellan (The Explainer).
