The president of the Hastings Center asked me to address the links between its mission in bioethics and the mission of universities and colleges dedicated to liberal arts education. The founders of the Hastings Center knew that science was too important to leave in the hands only of specialists, and over the years the staff has developed a robust research organization that connects advanced scientific work with ethical and policy issues. Liberal arts colleges and universities must ensure that higher education isn't left in the hands only of academics. We are connecting our schools to the worlds of public life, the economy and the broader culture. These connections will make for healthier and more successful scientific and educational institutions.
You work like a dog in college, are paid a great starting salary and retire making $10,000 more than your starting salary. That's the good news.
The bad news (reality) is that Chinese and Indian engineers are excellent, are paid $10,000 a year and work during the night (because of the time zones) to deliver results by morning. Couple those facts with the fact that data, computer models & simulations, etc., are all easily transmitted electronically and you have a job with NO future.
But I stopped listening to it because Michael is excruciating to listen to.
"uh, uh, uh, uh, uh ,uh" is not a sentence, "uh" is not a conjunction. Please learn to speak properly and engage your audience with common sense words, not "uh"s.
If I used that many "uh"s in a speech, lecture, or just normal conversation, I would drive myself nuts!
