Republicans Debate Their Future, Democrats Say Kiss Our Black Ass

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Have you heard? The republicans are in a period of "soul searching." And by "soul searching" they really mean, "Who do I have to kill to be in charge here?" The answer, of course, appears to be everyone's favorite Special Needs Governor, Sarah Effing Palin.

Catch the body language when Governor Snowflake took the podium to answer some questions at the Republican Governors Conference? Texas Governor Rick Perry, looking like the abusive husband in a woman-on-the-run movie, actually elbowed Palin out of his way as he grabbed a hold of the microphone. The message was unmistakable -- she doesn't speak for us and she never will.

I couldn't help but think of that expression, often credited to Charlie Sheen, "You don't pay them to sleep with you, you pay them to leave." Obviously the reference is to prostitutes but it seems somewhat apt here. Watch any of these interviews with the various Republican pretenders to the throne and there is a text and a subtext in what they're saying. The text is some version of, "Sarah Palin's future will be decided by the voters." The subtext is, "Sarah, your money is on the dresser. You can find your way out."

And please, as you're gearing up to send me accusations of sexism, I'm not saying she's a hooker. What I am saying is that she was hired with only one qualification which made her relevant for the first fifteen minutes and has had us checking our watches every minute since.

Did you happen to see President Obama (I'm done saying "President-Elect) on 60 Minutes last night? If you did you probably found yourself cheering at his use of an actual subject and a predicate in each sentence. You probably noted these two "elitists" from Chicago remembering their first date in his car with the hole in the floor. How about a president who talks truthfully about the challenges we face? Or how about when he was asked what he's currently reading and he talked about the writings of Lincoln and FDR. Remember when Baby-Huey Bush was asked that question? He was reading biographies of baseball players and proudly told us he didn't need to read a newspaper.

So, to get back to who will lead the Republican Party in 2012? Who cares. You know what they say, once you go black...

Have you heard? The republicans are in a period of "soul searching." And by "soul searching" they really mean, "Who do I have to kill to be in charge here?" The answer, of course, appears to be eve...

I disagree with one thing you said. I feel that everyone here will be interested to know that on the flight back to Alaska, palin was re-reading the first in the series, "Clifford, the Big Red Dog."

Without making a direct comparison betwwen Evita's and Sarah's early work, I do spy a comparison between them. Both poorly educated with unboundless ambition. Both vengeful and hard when crossed. Both were fearless and only listen to their own counsel. Both were seductive - even flirty - in public [and private]. Hard side - soft side.
Young attractive women who came from nowhere to considerable power in a short time. Picked out by old white guys who were not particularly attractve or powerful. Men who relied on their visceral attraction to the masses to get/keep power. Their appeal was to the little peeps of the world. "I am you and express your aspirations through me to the halls of power". The 'base' or the " descamisados", as t he case may be. They both became absorbed with the trappings of power; clothes, jewelry, accessories, hair, make up, etc. as tools to remake their glamourous image. Sarah from house frau and Evita from 'live in' girlfriend, to put it charitably. Making a Victory lap to solidify their leadership and prominence. The tour legitimized the present and erased the past. The post 2008 nationwide tour by Sarah and Evita's Raibow tour to Europe were trips to legitimize their place on the larger scene and to ensure their continuing presence there.

Interesting comparison, Grey. Not to flame you, but when you're calling someone uneducated you might not want to use a made-up word like "unboundless" in the same sentence. Aside from that nitpick, you make a good, and somewhat frightening, point. Although with McCain out of the picture, I don't think Palin has a mentor to help pull her up the rest of the way. Of course, one might yet emerge.

"Their appeal was to the little peeps of the world."

They are called citizens. You might try a little humility and respect for the common man. Or is that now anathema to "progressives"?

Sarah warbling "Don't cry for me, Alaska!...."

With that high-pitched high-decibel voice, I don't doubt she could sing. But I doubt that she could do it without a teleprompter.

I've read more books this week than Sarah Palin has read in her life. When did ignorace become a point of view? And when did it get a seat at the head table?

(Yeah, I know, when Rush got a radio show.) Let's send Helicopter Hunter Barbie back to the moose and the caribou. As far as I'm concerned, she can even keep the clothes.

"When did ignorace become a point of view? And when did it get a seat at the head table?"

As George Bush so effectually and ineloquently demonstrated during his campaigns and then his entire reign, the unabashed showing of ignorance paid off. This phenomenon probably has something to do with Red State, cultural living requirements and an emphasis by parents of all regions on using an education not, primarily, to become a good citizen, but to utilize it as a way to acquire wealth.
The dumbing down of America served (serves?) a purpose at both ends of the intelligence scale: The Upper End wants a dumb citizenry to keekp them from protesting their condition. The ignorant Lower End, if fed crumbs, think that everything is OK.
This all worked well in the past because the Lower End shared somewhat in the wealth. Now, however, there is no wealth to be shared and one finds some Red Staters asking "Hey! What the f**k is goin' on here, Bubba?"
In Talkin' New York Town, Bob Dylan famously intoned, "Some people don't have much food on their table. But they got a lot of forks and knives--and, man, they gotta' cut somethin'."
If things get any worse for the majority, maybe we will start cuttin' somethin'.
Regardless, W.C. Fields' observation will always work for those in power: "Never give a sucker and even break, and don't smarten up a chump".

JWLANDSCAPES Palin DID NOT draw crowds comparable to Obama. Maybe one of his smaller rallies. Check the records. However, she did shore up the base for McCain, but that was it. If she wants a future on the national stage she needs to study up.

You nailed this one. The Republicans let the genie out of bottle, now she does not want to go back in. She is pathetic, but dangerous. Palin seriously believes her own hype. She needs to go back to Alaska and find that bridge to nowhere and stay there. I hope we Democrats stick together and keep the republicans out for the next century.

Wouldn't it help the Repulican leadership to have had a soul in the first place in order to find it?For years they have used divide and counquer along with scorched earth policies in the name of patriotisim to win elections.
