Have you heard? The republicans are in a period of "soul searching." And by "soul searching" they really mean, "Who do I have to kill to be in charge here?" The answer, of course, appears to be everyone's favorite Special Needs Governor, Sarah Effing Palin.
Catch the body language when Governor Snowflake took the podium to answer some questions at the Republican Governors Conference? Texas Governor Rick Perry, looking like the abusive husband in a woman-on-the-run movie, actually elbowed Palin out of his way as he grabbed a hold of the microphone. The message was unmistakable -- she doesn't speak for us and she never will.
I couldn't help but think of that expression, often credited to Charlie Sheen, "You don't pay them to sleep with you, you pay them to leave." Obviously the reference is to prostitutes but it seems somewhat apt here. Watch any of these interviews with the various Republican pretenders to the throne and there is a text and a subtext in what they're saying. The text is some version of, "Sarah Palin's future will be decided by the voters." The subtext is, "Sarah, your money is on the dresser. You can find your way out."
And please, as you're gearing up to send me accusations of sexism, I'm not saying she's a hooker. What I am saying is that she was hired with only one qualification which made her relevant for the first fifteen minutes and has had us checking our watches every minute since.
Did you happen to see President Obama (I'm done saying "President-Elect) on 60 Minutes last night? If you did you probably found yourself cheering at his use of an actual subject and a predicate in each sentence. You probably noted these two "elitists" from Chicago remembering their first date in his car with the hole in the floor. How about a president who talks truthfully about the challenges we face? Or how about when he was asked what he's currently reading and he talked about the writings of Lincoln and FDR. Remember when Baby-Huey Bush was asked that question? He was reading biographies of baseball players and proudly told us he didn't need to read a newspaper.
So, to get back to who will lead the Republican Party in 2012? Who cares. You know what they say, once you go black...

Michael Seitzman my friend, you are a trip!
Absolutely Fabulos!
Gawd how I love it when bright, articulate people are irritated- it always makes for delightful reading... Thanks, Darlin'!
While I like the content of this article, I take exception to the title. I think it diminishes the character of President Obama by taking it there. His message on the 60 minutes was that our country and its problems is bigger than us as individuals and we will only improve things by working together. Telling them to kiss ....... while the sentiment may feel good, is not the way to gain consensus.
I personally have a Black ass, so we can all pretend it's mine. ( i ). I'll shine it up !
ps.
just kidding...... I do understand were you're coming from and agree to a point.
See?!?!
Awesome, couldn't have said it better myself.
If liking everything about Obama is wrong, I don't want to be right.
You said it, Angela!
HAHAHA.Love it.You never go back.
great article but that cymbal crash at the end had me cracking up.
Great in-sights, man!
Those who want to vote for 'someone like me' need to look around. They couldn't be president, so neither can 'someone like . . ' them.
DeniseD hit it. What a great blog and a great comment.
I want a president who is smarter than I am. I try to make that as difficult as possible--I have a doctorate; I've coauthored a couple of books, and a few dozen articles. I did really well on all those tests we had to take in high school and college.
The current occupant of the White House would have had trouble at my high school, at least on his merits, let alone my undergraduate university--Northwestern. (In journalism. Kudos to the new chief of staff, another alum)
But the President Elect is smarter than I am. Our new president will be smarter than I am.
Thank God. I think I'm smart, much smarter than Bush, smarter and better read than Palin and Bush and McCain put together, but I'm not--not--smart enough to run this show, this country.
And Obama is.
So I hope they hire Sarah for another 15 minutes in 2012. If she's the best they can do, we should see eight years of a brilliant president.
Thanks for this. I'm not in the same boat, nor do I think I'm smart enough to run this country, but it takes a person who has brains, and a calm demeanor to handle the roughest parts of an incredibly rough job. President-Elect Obama is a very smart man, who married a smarter woman. I appreciate his decisions in life, and how he has been able to handle all the challenges he has faced.
I want the secret service to make doubly sure that they protect him at all costs, and to make sure that he is able to serve out a full term. I don't want this nation to experience the loss of a president due to violence. I don't want to see another widow in the white house.
God bless him & his family.
You've touched on a true reason to worry. He really seems to be "That One." So let's keep him safe.
We're getting a very insightful and articulate president, something we haven't seen in 8 long years.....Excellent interview and no, I was not watching football.
I always heard that credited to Sinatra, not Sheen.
Great article, When I watched 60 minutes and Michele talked about President's Obama old car, with the hole in the floor. I was thinking, 'she had no idea he would be president.' These days alot of women wouldn't gave him a second date and probably those days either, but it just goes to show you cannot judge people by their possessions or lack thereof. I would have gave him a second date too, lol..
Cute, cute, cute!!
Excellent article, Michael. I look forward to many more.
