Reading The Pictures: McCain Ad Ties Sex With Race

Obama-Sex

In today's trip to the swamp, the McCain campaign's latest attack video ostensibly targets the Obama's education plan.

... Except, the issue serves as nothing more than a foil to intimate that Obama -- shown in the screen shot with a smarmy grin and his coat looking frumpy -- desires to sexualize the lives of young children. More odious, however, it's also an example of the McCain campaign playing the race card, activating stereotypes of the black man -- seeming to gaze dreamily at something below (or shorter than) him -- as driven by sexual appetite.

For more of the visual -- including the latest bomb from McCain, which blatantly ups the racial ante -- visit BAGnewsNotes.com.

Our politics and, indeed, our culture is obsessed with winning. It's all about winning; at any cost, monetary, moral or ethical. McSwain is simply playing this dynamic out at the highest level. I am now beyond anger. I'm listless, discouraged and deeply saddened. Frankly, I don't see any positive change or end possible in our poisonous politics. I was incredulous; absolutely incredulous when Bush won a second term. How could it be? How could people be so gullible and irrational as to vote for Bush and Cheney? Twice?!?!? But it happened. They voted because they bought into seek and destroy; win at any cost politics. It's happening again. It will happen again. I need to either ignore it completely; numb down and dumb down so that it doesn't bother me; so that all I think about is whether Brad and Angelina are having an argument or what's going to happen on some reality show this week. Either that, or I need to leave this country all together. Move to a country where people reason and behave like adults.

Its a shame when a a canidate has to do to try win the trust of the country. How can Mcbush let his campaign destroy his reputation. This is truly a new low and why we should get rid the two party system in our country because all it does is put wedge between people here and create culture wars. Obama is the evidence that our country is past the evils of the past and we can truly be ONE NATION UNDER GOD!

Horrible! This deserves an apology.

And the McCain camp has the nerve to complain about the generic "lipstick on a pig" line like it was an outrageous attack of equal or greater personal insult. Outrageous! Enough!

Damn Straight! The advert is a revolting lie and the McBush campaign should apologise immediately.

By the way, I'm sure it's not what Obama meant, but its what I mean-Sarah Palin is a pig with lipstick. (sorry to all the pigs who feel offended by the comparison.)

LOL. Why does it seem that white folks are always the last to "know."
When Bob Herbert raised the point that the McCain campaign's goal with their "celebrity" ads was to sexualize Obama, the press pooh-poohed the idea. These folks know to whom they speak and the code is clear. The only thing scarier than an uppity angry black man is an uppity sexual one. Folks may wish to forget that the most important part of any proper lynching was the pre-hanging castration and sexual humiliation of the victim to avenge the inappropriate sexual advances they would have allegedly made towards white women, children, etc. McCain and Palin are just giving them that ol' time religion; and just like most of those good citizens who just stood by and watched, the MSM won't say a word.

Folks, we have to get organized and take political action to stop this momentum. The polls have McCain/Palin on the move! The Republican grass roots smear machine is full on (what did we expect?) and this ad is just an example!

We deluded ourselves that the Palin choice would be exposed as pandering for disaffected Hillary supporters! We believed Women are not that easily deceived and they wouldn't vote based solely on gender because they are issues people!” Well based on current polls - apparently that is not the case - any women will do...

This is serious, the Obama response has been painfully flatfooted since the RNC and I am very afraid. “Pig with lipstick”? That is sophomoric whether it was a direct reference or not – what about the issues? I'd bet Palin has a treasure trove of nutty videos and statements - get moving!!!!

Enough of the respectful positive hope campaign!!! Give me positive hope when you get in office, right now I need you to keep that a sneering lying cynical right wing nut job out of the White House. McCain is 72 I don't want an fanatical hockey "person" just a heartbeat away from the “Left Behind” Armageddon-button!.

We'd better hope that Obama comes out swinging like John Wayne in the Quiet Man or we will have another John Kerry fiasco. It's go time - Truly, the future of this country and world hangs in the balance.

Sad part about it is, many Americans (mainly white) will buy into the ad. These folks are just looking for any excuse...

For a man who is running on family values this is the epitome of shame. McZero is attacking O for protecting our precious young children from predators. What has McZero done to protect our most vulnerable? He has become the most despicable man who ever ran for office.

More smoke and mirrors from the repugs.
They just keep throwing out a bunch of lies and we scramble to refute them.
Just stick to the real issues and expose them for the lying failures that they really are.

This ad makes me very sad. The code was instantly apparent. I wondered how can McCain get up and look himself in the mirror in the morning? Is he going to say he's proud of this ad too? Its the main stream medias job to call him out on this and it has to be on the local network news....the only news that low information voters see. The most important line was, I am John McCain, and I endorse this message....

This is truly unbelievable. I think Obama needs to change is slogan to "The Candidate that is above the Gutter" He can do an ad with McCain and Palin in the Gutter and use their voice to repeat all the lies they are telling. Have Obama standing on top of the Gutter saying America we are better than this, we can do better. For real change vote for Obama/Biden.
I am going to start sending emails about this ad. Something must be done.

Now that we understand that there is no depth to which they will not sink, can we remember the truth of the playing field itself? Remember, they don't actually have to win the majority of votes. All they have to do is put up a plausible enough race that they can steal the votes they need and the media will once again say it was a dead heat, but the GOP pulled it out. They will attribute McCain's win to a divided America, to a weak Dem candidate (hey, it's worked before), and they will airbrush McCain's truly awful character and rally round the flag. For the GOP it is about naked power, pure and simple. Get it, keep it no matter what the cost.

The difference between this ad and the willi horton ad is that the willie horton debacle was a direct result of crappy legislation, and willie horton was not running for president. The mccain camp has portrayed the obama as the offender. They didnt say it but everybody i have talked to, say that was the impression they got, the mccain camp trying to make obama look like some kind of pedofile. Believe me folks they havent hit bottom yet they will go lower.
