Reading The Pictures: Rough Handling Between Sarah And the Govs?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Perry-Palin-GOP-Governors.jpgIs there resentment at hand between SP and the GOP?

Even though the media touted it as Sarah Palin's press conference, the press event yesterday at the Republican Governors Conference was designed and intended as a press conference for all the governors.

After his own opening remarks, Texas Governor and chairman of the organization Rick Perry did introduce Palin who spoke for several minutes about the goals of the organization. At that point, however, Perry opened up the floor to questions for everyone on stage.

With reporters having been deprived of spontaneous access to Palin throughout the presidential campaign, however, it didn't take much imagination to know where this was heading.

If you watch the video, you can see how Palin (at about the 9:20 mark) steps back into line with the other governors having already answered the first three questions -- Palin using most of the last one to emphasize how much she's just part of the group.

At that point, Perry forcefully moved to the podium and announced there would only be one more question. He then pointed to one of the reporters and specifically asked: "Who do you want (to ask a question to)?"

Although it happened quickly and could easily be taken as stage management, it is interesting how a severe-looking Perry actually grips Palin's arm to put her back at the podium (SP grimacing for an instant, less for the grip than for the awkwardness) as her number comes up again.

I could well imagine the press session (which reports indicated ended abruptly) having gone on much longer if the other governors were in on the action. Perry's handling, instead, seemed at least partly reflective of a resentment the governors must be feeling toward their diva counterpart.

(Also see: newswire shot of Perry pulling at his pocket flap while looking at Palin, and CSPAN video of the 12 minute session.)

Even though I do not like having Perry as my governor, I don't think he "manhandled" her. He does have some class and probably saw where the questions were headed and that she needed to be back in the line with the other governors.
As far as her "taking him down"...ha! Perry is extremely fit. That ain't happening. He would just pick her up and watch her legs back and forth.

That wasn't rough enough.
They should have brought out THE HOOK and the old guy dancing from the Apollo Theater.
Sarah was self-serving.
The meeting was about all the Governors. Many of them were Democrats.

um, no. It was the Republican Governor's Conference. NONE of them were Democrats.

I thnk they were trying to muzzle the unadulterated Palin: no writers just Sarah and her talking points goin' all rogue. She is a know-nothing and clearly the Republican Governors see that and were attempting damage control.
Palin will talk herself into oblivion.

Michael, I saw this situation very differently. My impression of the scenerio is, as usual, everyone was protecting the "poor, little Sarah Palin". Perry's handling of Sarah and, the press, struck me as his being the "big, strong man" protecting the "helpless" Sarah. The whole thing makes me want to gag. Sarah sets such a horrible example for women. If I remember right, not one female governor stepped on the stage with Sarah. It was Sarah being protected by all the "big, strong" men.

Poor little Sarah Palin my ass. Could you imagine what people would have said if Sarah had given that guy a nice hockey-mom style forearm shiver? you know what I'm sayin?........really put that fool in his place right then and there!

I would have cheered.. She really missed a grand opportunity to change people's perception of her. I think she missed it because there was too much going on, and not because she dosen't have the heart or mentality to do it. There is something about her, I just don't know what it is, or weather it's good or bad. For all of the verbal mistakes she may have made, I think that a Hard Check on that guy would have sent a clear message of what she's all about. She's in over her head, and she hasn't gotten used to the pace of the game......... yet.

SP is in way over her head. She should have known better than to accept McCain's offer. That said, I think she was having the time of her life until the natives started getting nasty.

I'm not a big Crist fan, but he's a damn sight better than Jeb Bush. Bush ruined the state with the same tax cuts for the rich and leave no corporation behind policies that his brother used to bankrupt the country. Jeb was left a big surplus by his predecessor and blew that, too. Now the state is in financial trouble and going downhill fast. I'm worried that the repubs will try and run him in 2012. He would be as big a disaster as his brother if not bigger, if that is possible.

Hey,under Jeb, Florida maintain an affordable health care, jobs, education.
He was very visible as Governor, very popular too.
Under Crist, health care for the rich, schools closing, building police fortresses etc,
Crist destroyed the good work left by Jeb,Crist is very unpopular.
We, I do not know what you are talking about .

This is what the Republican Governors deserve for all the kudos they kept feeding to the press regarding Sarah's wonderful qualifications and capabilities while she was on the campaign trail and not giving interviews THEN. Had they not been talking at that time the press would have forced the McCain camp for access to their little darling and then even the Republican who thought (9 of 10) she was capable of handling the 3AM phone call would have had the realization the rest of us had.

This just confirms that the McCain camp did the right thing by keeping Sarah away from the press. She is a disaster everytime she opens her mouth. Her recent interviews have shown that "letting Sarah be Sarah" isn't such a good idea. She is an idiot with no ideas of her own.

Now, Sarah can complain about how the McCain camp and the GOP Govenors mishandled her.
Oh, I almost forgot....the mainstream media is at fault too..........for reporting the news. ha, ha, ha!

I cannot believe that the psychology of the Republican governors is so fragile that they might be either jealous or concerned about Palin. They should understand that she is only a fad phenomena of the campaign. In a sense it was the same phenomena that captured the public about Obama. The difference was that Obama had substance and intelligence so it is more lasting. With Palin we now know that there is really no "there there". Palin will have an overall short shelf life. Yes, there will be that precious few of the extreme religious right that will want her to run (she may pick up a few percent of the "woman" only vote as well) during any upcoming election, but she won't survive her 15 to 20 minutes of fame like "Joe the Plumber". Substance is always lasting and she doesn't have it. If she runs again for governor after her present term is up she will have more of a record and I predict it will not be too much to rave about. She may not even win should a strong candidate either of her own party or a Democrat choose to run. Based upon it being Alaska a strong candidate may not show up but then again what would be a strong intelligent and capable candidate in Alaska. Gad, they voted for a convicted felon so all bets may be off.

It's so obvious that Palin can't hold her own with the press. How can anyone seriously still think she's qualified for national office?! If you can't hold your own with our own American press imagine how easily other world leaders could just walk all over you.
