Though the times might be grim (hat tip to Sergeant at Arms), what was inescapable tonight
was Obama's irrepressible sense of confidence. (Although I thought a good part of the
pre-speech adulation was also post-Bush relief.)
Congress applauding the one honest banker in America.
Nancy kvelling (with good reason).
"My good friend Dr. Coburn! Let me look at you (and, vice-versa).
Oh, there's John! Hey John, I'm lovin' my helicopter!"
(A month in, Obama's already made major inroads seducing
the opposition. Beyond basketball, I think it's his favorite sport.)
It was all downhill after "Happy Mardi Gras."

Everything said by the president was great except one!
Americans did NON 'invent the automobile'. Maybe that isn't what they want to hear, but it is untrue. The automobile was invented in GERMANY!
I was thinking about that, too. We may have made the production process more efficient or even improved the technology, but we didn't invent the automobile.
Thank you President Obama! You are exactly what we need!
America and the world are now in intelligent, competent hands with President Obama in the White House!!
BHO is magnificent!
I was watching on CNN last night. After Obama talked about cutting tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas they panned the crowd and I saw one guy rolling his eyes. Any idea who that was? Just curious.
who rolled his eyes? was it Boehner?
Sen. Jack Reed D-RI.
Surprising, because he was a VP pick, and a big Obama supporter.
Perhaps he was rolling them at someone/thing else.
President Obama may have delivered once of his most poignant speeches ever last night. I initially tuned in with high expectations, and some trepidation that our leader would not be able to meet them. Thankfully he proved me wrong, the message that President Obama delivered was one which we all desperately needed. Our president was candid, to the point, and inspiration by turns. I was left with more hope and determination to succedeed then even during the campaign.. .I know we have a leader at the head of the government, finally. President Obama continues to uphold our values, while showing respect to the ideals of others, he has single handedly restored the proper use of the English language in the eyes of American's if not the world at large, and has shown a dim, but present light is at the end of this tunnel of distrust and dispair. If I was doubting the probability of us fully recovering from this economic crisis as a unified nation, the audicity of hope has been reignited in my heart for months to come. Thank you Mr. President, I believe in you, in myself, and in this great nation!!!
Amen to the comments! Certainly was downhill with B. Jindal. If this is the great "white" Repub. hope for 2012, perhaps we can relax a little. How magnificent it was to experience for the 1st time in 8 years a President, leader of the brave NEW world, who is magnificently fluent in his own native tongue, acts and sounds sincere, and has the ability to instill in us a sense of belief for the future. I felt like Nancy Pelosi, just elated!! Thanks for the great pics.
Jindal, Palin, and Huckabee will be the "front runners" for the Republican nomination in 2012 as the party is tacking extreme right again. Obama is slowly stealing the center away and, wheever faced with the kind of defeat that they faced this last election, they've typically retreated back to the far-right base. They also need to be able to find, as someone mentioned with Jindal last night, someone who's not in the House and Senate who doesn't have the taint of the last eight years on them.
After watching Jindal last night, I hope he appears on TV more and more. Like Palin, when he's just known as the governor, he probably has high ratings in his home state, but once he ends up under the national magnifying glass, that could wear off quickly with the general populace. Huckabee probably has the best chance of the three, provided that his Fox show doesn't get overly extreme.
Looking at Nancy's face I KNEW that everything was going to be OK...can you imagine those years behind the Bush Admin....u ghhhh, I am really impressed with her.
