Reading The Pictures: Teabaggers' Subliminal Death Message

The wingnuts don't consistently merge health care reform with Obama's name just because it's catchy.

The most chilling and sickest thing about the Teabaggers' presentation strategy is the way their exploitation of death symbolism, merged with their hatred of the President, cross-fertilizing a "death to/of Obama" suggestion.

I keep wondering: Are these RightWingers aware of the etymology of the term "TEA BAGGER?" Do they understand the body parts involved? I'd like some MSM interviewer to ask one of the old ladies there, "Ma'am, have you actually 'Tea Bagged' one of your friends?"

And then I'd like for her to describe all the physical movements involved. No, I'm not attempting to embarrass anyone here at HuffPo. There is a definite reason I'm asking: The average 'joiners' of these events have no idea what they've signed on for! If they knew they were supporting a 'Crime Against Nature' they might think again.

Chuck Grassly said "Kill ObamaCare".

Suppose I said "Beat the f*ck out of Chuck's next campaign"?

Would they understand I was only talking about winning the election?

Facts are just pesky truths that those who are so blinded by the hate speak don't understand. When confronted with the truth, they can only stammer out ..."Oh I didn't know that".....and then go on to justify why they still believe it.

It's amazing how dumb these people are when they protest so big insurance companies can do whatever they want and charge whatever they want. The oppose changing the system that would actually benefit them, and are protesting for the rights of insurance companies to get rich, rich, rich off of their health.

Maybe they think that insurance company CEO's are not earning enough money. It seems that they think insurance companies should be making an even bigger profit off thier health.. Maybe these teabaggers think that CEO's should get at least 50 million a year in salary/bonus.

Geez. Odd....very odd.

Some believe that it is right wing commentators such as Limbaugh and Beck that are stirring up the masses and inciting fear and anger. I think that gives them too much credit. There are many other voices, like that of David Horowitz who had recently said, and I quote;

"With unseemly haste Obama has nearly bankrupted the federal government, amassing more debt in eight months than all his predecessors combined. He has appeased America’s enemies abroad and attacked America’s intelligence services at home. He has rushed forward with programs that require sweeping changes in the American economy and is now steamrolling a massive new healthcare program that will give the government unprecedented control of its citizens."

It is hardly any wonder why so many America's would get up in arms when exposed to such rhetoric.

And his military budget is bigger than the last president's, how is that appeasing other countries?

I do think that Beck and Limbaugh are stirring up a lot of latent hatred. When Limbaugh wants segregated school buses and shows a film over and over again of some kids fighting in school bus to prove it -- seems like we all know the part of peoples' minds he is going for -- he keeps calling it "Obama's America." He is giving voice to all those teabaggers who "want their America back." Must have been the America with different drinking fountains. People forget that lies told over and over have power. Look at GWB and his administration -- Karl Rove proved it. So don't discount the power these men have over people who are afraid. The same people who don't have a clue about the differences between communism, socialism and fascism. For someone to call the same man all three shows that he must be none of them and they got the sign ideas from a FreedomWorks website or one of his ones that look like an amateur "grassroots" kind of deal. Still big lobbying bucks behind it. And if you read the sordid details of Armey's life you would not want to be associated with any of it if you had any kind of decent values at all.

Freedom from government intervention. What a ridiculous platform. Can't they simply understand that the government only wants what is best for them? After all, what Obama is proposing is for their own good, whether they realize it or not. I simple can't understand why anybody would want to make their own decisions. Especially about something as trivial as health care.

That is exactly what no one is talking about!!!

How much choice do you have now?

You are free to purchase the plan offered by your employer, or buy a private plan offered by most likely the same company!

A 2008 report published by the Urban Institute, states that in all but 14 states, three or fewer insurance companies account for 65% of the commercial market.

Near monopolies, yeah...That's a choice...... We won't even go into the level of care, or how much care you will be reimbursed for, or denied, decided for you by the insurance company......

Teabaggers an interesting term used to talk about Tea-party activists since I am an old gal, just reminded by my young daugther what the actual term referred to by the gay community. I find it odd that a journalists would use this terminology.

bobh: They (Teabaggers) are the dumbest people on earth.

Perhaps not, at least not entirely.

Of the 70,000 some odd number at the DC protestors, perhaps many have something to gain from the status quo. There may have been an untold number of wealth insurance corporation execs, their employees, for profit hospital employees and management and of course the nursing home owners, wall street investors who are getting rich from "health" stocks, etc. all of whom have a financial stake in maintaining the current system. That's who could have accounted for most of the 70,000. But I agree, the remainder (minus the wealth insurance people) are the dumbest of the dumb. But there is no shortage of these people in American society. Just consider the 60 million that voted in the last election for McCain-Palin. Even GW Bush threw silly Sarah baracuda under the bus yesterday. And here I always thought that GW was an idiot. He can't be all that bad for trashing Sarah. Well very close to it.

Anyway, getting past that: Death Panels already do exist. What do you think waiting lists for organ donors are, or the decisions made on whether to pay for an emergency procedure, or even the decision by insurance companies and their pre-existing condition clauses?

Waiting lists for organ donation exist because there aren't enough organs. Now, Canada has waiting lists for readily available treatment, but that's because the government backlog creates them. Emergency procedures cannot be denied, so there goes that point. As for pre-existing conditions, can you call up the insurance company while your house is on fire and get coverage?

The message is not so subliminal. It is coded racism "Bury Obama" healthcare with Kennedy is way too obvious. Many black Americans are fully aware of what the message is. It is not the only coded message being spread by sick members of our society.

Is the fact that we have a black President going to continue to lead to more and more overt racism?

No one mentioned the fact that it started immediately after election with Dick Cheney taking to wheelchair so he wouldn't have to stand up for a Black man. Those of us who have been discussing this since he announced so painstakingly that he would have to use a wheelchair on inauguration day. Most black Americans just let it ride. Some who talk about it among themselves just decided that Cheney was not worth the effort to let on that we were aware. Many joked about a man with a heart condition and all his money having to move his own furniture. Now with all the racist incidents occuring all over the country, I don't believe this little inside tidbit was so "inside".

The President CAN"T be a Nazi and a Communist at the same time. He can't be Hitler AND Stalin. FINALLY, Former President Carter called an apple an apple. ALL of this shorthand is RACIST. Just because President Obama is being called the worst possible names for a WHITE MAN doesn't make it any less racist. The "Birthers' might as well be saying what their message really is-that the President and all 'his' people should go back to Africa. And Joe Wilson didn't add 'BOY' to his comment.

Medicare and Social Security trust funds have been used as a slush fund for the last 4 Presidents. Reagan and Bush2 both cut taxes to the wealthiest Americans, the last took over a Trillion out of the budget.

Medical costs are rising at 3 times the inflation rate, seems as though the profit margin get larger and larger.

Medicare worked for millions for 30 years or more until the Republican Revolution...Then all of a sudden, Medicare, which Republicans have always opposed, is foundering......

There seems to be a causality here.

Besides, the Republicans ran the Government from 1993 until 2009, how did that end up?

The profit margin is what we get from a stock market driven healthcare system. Less care, more dividends for the ownership class.

First of all, SS, Medicare and Medicaid are not broke.

Why CAN'T the post office compete with private carriers? Seems to me they do it every day, for less money.

How many banks went broke during the meltdown last Fall. Are you saying that all banks are bad and you won't use them?

When you pay a private insurance company a premium for your healthcare, you are paying for a CEO's multi-billion dollar salary and bonus. You are O.K. with that, but don't want government healthcare? Odd. The government isn't taking a huge chunk of your money for pure profit.

You people who are protesting for insurance companies to do whatever they want, and charge whatever they want are............ummmm........dumb.

Actually, connected2u2 did not say that the banking industry was broke. I did. And, no, not all, but the financial biggies did go broke and nearly destroyed the economy. My reference to private industry, i.e. banking, auto and housing, is in response to his claim and suggsestion that private industry, not the government, should be responsible for healthcare. Obviously, private industry can't hack it; otherwise, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in right now, and private health insurance companies (and the healthcare industry) wouldn't be BREAKING US right now. The example of the broken fiancial system is proof of precisely why we need more government control of the healthcare industry.

Two Americas - Reality or Confusion?: A colleague said, "There are two Americas that distrust each other." Many probably have that sentiment. I have a different perspective, especially on healthcare.

Data shows high-cost healthcare in big-city states east of the Mississippi. These states are Liberal, Democratic and Blue. They seek reform, especially the “single payer system” to bring down cost and eliminate the scourge of "insurance denial".

Per-capita low-cost consumers of care are located in the South, Mid-west and rural regions. They are Conservative, Republican and Blue. They don't see the need to over-haul the low premium system. Is it their politics that results in low premiums?

Low-cost states have lower incidence of chronic illnesses like emphysema; greater social support network; and lower cost of end-of-life care. Only 15% in the northeast die at home; while a much higher % in rural and traditional societies. These factors have major effect on costs. Medicare expenditure is 70% on management of chronic illnesses and 30% on end-of-life care.

It isn’t distrust that exists between the two Americas; it is gross confusion. Conservatives should credit Liberals for coming to grips to control costs; and discipline those who are not savvy consumers of healthcare. Ideally, both sides should have a rational dialog and learn from each other. Instead, we succumb to catch-phrases like "Death Panels" and "Government takeover"; allowing ourselves to be exploited by political parties and special-interest groups.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:39 PM on 09/15/2009

I think you are missing something here. Population is the only reason to explain your comments and thoe statistics. Its not politics.

There are more people in the NE, more people requiring healthcare, thus more people ending up in hospitals when they die, etc. In the south and the midwest people are more spread out, more people die at home cause there is nowhere for them to go AND they cant afford it! Remember, states in the south take more federal tax dollars than do NE states (whose citizens pay more state taxes).

The rise in healthcare costs probably has very little to do with where someone lives. But whether they have adequate health insurance and access to healthcare facilities could be explained by region.
