GET UPDATES FROM Michael Tonello

Michael Tonello grew up in Massachusetts, amidst the windswept dunes and ever-encroaching tourism of Cape Cod. He attended New York City's
Fordham University for almost a full day, before beginning an ambitious
field study of New York socialites in their native nightlife habitats.
A few months later, armed with a vast array of discotheque expertise,
(but no longer possessed of parental financial support), he made his
way out to San Francisco. The West coast would be
his home for five years, and the start of his career
in hair and makeup. Eventually co-founding a
successful company -- an innovative advertising collaborative called TEAM -- Michael returned to his native Massachusetts,
settling into the artists' colony of Provincetown. But a chance job
assignment in Spain would prove fateful, and Michael went from P-townie
to expatriate in a flash, resettling in Barcelona. Pressed to find a
profession that didn't necessitate working papers, he turned in his
make-up bag for a laptop. Quickly finding his niche as an eBay luxury
reseller, he soon after began his lucrative relationship with all things
Hermes.

His Bestselling memoir, Bringing Home the Birkin, was published in May of 2008 by William Morrow/HarperCollins.

Gay Marriage. Questions? Answers!

Posted April 9, 2009 | 11:54:37 (EST)

I love the simplicity of this. The Anti-Gay Marriage people made a tv commercial and the Pro-Gay Marriage people used that exact commercial and answered/addressed the "issues" presented.

LAY-OFFS and "Early Retirement" Hit Tiffany&Co.

Posted January 31, 2009 | 17:35:31 (EST)

More bad news. Just received this email from a good friend whom had worked for many years at T&Co.

"Last night I went out with all these folks from Tiffany that were forced into early retirement- which is a breath of a difference from being laid off.
It's...

Obama Campaign - PLEASE FORWARD

Posted October 10, 2008 | 06:28:16 (EST)

I got a form letter email from the Obama campaign yesterday. I get a lot of emails from the Obama campaign. This one caught my eye.

I was supposed to forward it on to those I love, (with their names plugged in, of course) as an attempt to convince them...

And Our Next Vice President Is....Lynne Spears?

Posted September 4, 2008 | 01:36:32 (EST)

Okay, first off, let me say that I never agreed with the public evisceration of Britney and Jamie Lynn's mom for the misdeeds of her daughters. Granted, I didn't feel she should be running web forums on parenting, but far as I know, she wasn't. But the conservative media sure...

Sex and the....Vitamin Water?

Posted May 29, 2008 | 12:09:12 (EST)

Like many people, I am absurdly excited over the Sex and the City movie. I find the media blitz surrounding it totally and utterly justified. But there is one little item bobbing about in all this froth and fun that is sort of throwing me off a teeny bit....

217 Years Later

Posted March 12, 2008 | 14:08:29 (EST)

There is this Sandra Bullock movie about rehab called 28 Days (not 28 Days Later, that's something else altogether, involving zombies and a lot more indie movie cinematic ambition). The movie I'm talking about is a typical Hollywood treatment of a less-than-Hollywood-beautiful ailment: alcoholism. (Not that Hollywood is lacking in...

Virtual Reality

Posted February 8, 2008 | 11:31:28 (EST)

My entire livelihood is a product of the digital age. I became a professional eBay seller over seven years ago, and I basically owe my expatriate lifestyle to the wonders of technology. I love my laptop (most days.) That said, I have recently become a little nervous about some...

You (Tube) Can Make A Difference

Posted November 13, 2007 | 17:59:00 (EST)

Over the last week or so, I have spent an inordinate amount of time online. This is largely owed to the fact that I have a book releasing in the spring, and the hour is nigh for coming up with some creative marketing ideas (according to my publisher, anyway.)...

eBay: the new Canal Street?

Posted July 11, 2007 | 12:34:41 (EST)

It used to be that Canal Street was the place to get the goods -- the red-hot goods, that is. I'm sure they are still doing business -- but these days, if you are serious about selling your fake designer goods, you are much better off becoming a cyber-con. Over...

America's (Lesbian) Sweethearts

Posted June 24, 2007 | 15:59:37 (EST)

I don't wake up every morning thinking about man's inhumanity to man as I brush my teeth. I must admit, despite being the member of an "out" group, (pun definitely intended), I have never really been much of an activist, gay or otherwise. And since moving to Spain, I...

The Plane Truth

Posted June 19, 2007 | 17:13:27 (EST)

I hate flying. As do you, presumably, unless you are under the age of 11, or a masochist. I live in Barcelona, and I just got back from a weekend in Rome, which is why my loathing is in full-flower right now -- 2 separate flights in under 3 days...

Cuckoo for Counterfeits

Posted May 29, 2007 | 21:01:45 (EST)

To get things started here, let's play some word association. Ok...ready...here's the word..."counterfeit."

Quick, what word are you thinking?? I bet a lot of you saw green, and thought -- "money." But it's very possible also that you thought "fake," or maybe "knock-off," or even, in the case of the...
