Sheesh, the guy is Jimmy Carter.
That homespun bowling crap on Jay Leno, followed by the turgid, teachy fiscal policy lecture, together with the hurt defensiveness (and bad script for it) that everybody in Washington "is Simon Cowell... Everybody's got an opinion," is pure I'm-in-over-my-head stuff. Even the idea of having to go on Jay Leno to rescue yourself from the AIG mess is lame. Be a man, man.
The guy just doesn't know what to say. He can't connect. Emotions are here, he's over there. He can't get the words to match the situation.
This began, I'd argue, from the first moment. He punted on the inaugural. Everybody ran around like crazy trying to praise it because if Barack Obama couldn't give a speech then what?
But now, at week 11, we're face-to-face with the reality, the man can't talk worth a damn.
You can see the fundamental mistake he's making. Having been so successfully elected, he's acting like people actually want to hear what he thinks. He's the great earnest bore at the dinner party. Instead of singing for his supper, he's just talking--and going on at length. The real job of making people part of the story you're telling, of having them hang on your every word, of getting the tone and detail right, the hard job of holding a conversation, he ain't doing.

Doesn't resonate. Not when you have the entire world fascinated by you.
Come again.
hate to bust your bubble but their is no such animal as " overexposed " just a bunch of tired wanna be journalist and talking heads trying to trump up a story -
it's great to see our president out representing himself and his policies and speaking to the people he was elected to serve. too bad some can't see past the media eclipse of think as i think mantra. no one has to inform me of what i think, i can think for myself - thankyou
Joking, right? Cuz, if not, you are swimming upstream with this one. Barack Obama is probably the most inspirational and effective speaker I've ever heard. He's both interesting and charasmatic.
You're joking, right? He's my President and I'm eternally grateful that he is.
I don't think it's satire. Reading the comments on Newser, and here on HP neither do a lot of others.
It's really amazing how 2 people can watch the same thing, and come away with such 2 totally different interpretations.
I agree with you I'm eternally grateful that he is my President.
Mr Wolff you couldn't be more wrong..
I don't know if this article is meant to be a joke or if the writer is serious? If the first it fail flat because most jokes have a point and pull the pieces together. If the later, the writer must live in a world closed off from reality. P. Obama was in Fl and this week in CA and he could hardly finish his statement from the audience claps and cheers. These are states where people are hurting daily from the economic crisis and a GOP that is playing games with their lives. At least for one hour, the people were able to remove themselves from their problem and listen to their president reasure them that things were going to get better. If P. Obama can't connect his emotions with the moment, than I would love to know who can?
Hummm, satire? Me thinks so. Not very good satire I must say, since it lacks wit and humor, and mainly preaches.
"I can set a braggart quailing with a quip,
The upstart I can wither with a whim;
He may wear a merry laugh upon his lip,
But his laughter has an echo that is grim!"
You've got it so remarkably wrong. He connects incredibly well, particularly in large crowd functions. Leno isn't a speech, it's a dialogue, and he wasn't going on Leno to save himself - appearances on the show have been standard fodder for the presidentials (both before and after the election) for decades. Sounds like you're either bitter or jealous.
Obama "can't connect"? He is the most adored political figure in the entire history of the world. BILLIONS cheered around the world when he was elected; that is the grid, and you say he can't connect. What are you on dude? A certain sign of insanity is thinking everyone else is crazy. No, YOU can't connect. Are you by chance the guy who said the Beatles would never go anywhere?
Get some help, you're obviously living on another planet.
Well, to make the animal kingdom complete, there must also be snakes, crocodiles, rabbits, rats, tigers, wolves, bears, and foxes. It adds to the color of the MSM fauna. It doesn't necessarily mean anything beyond their sheer existence.
Sounds here like "it takes one to know one."
This should not be news. After all, he was on Leno, a comedy show. We should all just lighten up a little and laugh at ourselves.
He's only a man, not superman.

Wake me when the joke is over.
I thought it would take 5-6 months before articles like
this would show. WOW! only 60 days? seems like 4 years.
Obama is a post turtle.
While suturing a laceration on the hand of a 70-year-old Illinois farmer(whose hand had been caught in a gate), a doctor and the old man were talking about Obama being in the White House.
The old Farmer said, "Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'."
Not knowing what the old man meant, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.
The old man said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle."
The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain, "You know he didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there. And you wonder who is the idiot that put him there."
Damn if that doesn't sound exactly like the past 8 years. I guess in his attempt to knock Obama of the fence he cut his hand on the gate, just another sad failed attempt to bring down the greatness one is to ignorant to comprehend.
What is going on with Vanity Fair? Big story singing the praises of Rupert Murdoch. Time to cancel my subscription.
Having adjustment problems. The NYC media intelligentia is behind the curve, and the advertisers that keep them propped are leaving along w/readers.
You're being unfair to Carter.
Who was a hell of alot better than Bushy poo.
Course so was Nixon.....
I can't believe what I'm reading as it is so out of touch with reality. Every word you say is a projection of your attitude and your mind -- and, this is your existence. Come on, open your heart, mind and spirit and smell the fresh flowers blooming in our White House.
Where were you liviing these past 10 years or more?
Hmmn. For a guy who supposedly can't connect, the evidence is in that Obama did a pretty good job of connecting over the last two years. After all, it's Obama in the White House now, not McCain, so he must have connected with somebody.
Sorry you didn't find him entertaining, but come on, Chuckles, just because you didn't like him doesn't mean that's true for everyone else.
