Obama Dines Out

When Barack Obama met with Fox News Chief Roger Ailes in a secret meeting at the Waldorf Astoria last June he cut him up. Obama put his hands between his legs, lowered his shoulders until he came to eye-level with Ailes and then, inches from his face, asked why he should waste another second talking to Ailes, who had only ever portrayed him as a crypto-terrorist.

The new president was much more magnanimous to the conservative media last night. By dining at George Will's house with New York Times columnists William Kristol and David Brooks, and the Washington Post's Charles Krauthammer, he's single-handedly revived these guys' careers. (Too bad he can't help revive newspapers.)

Indeed, undoubtedly with design, he picked this special, print-centric, lap-dog group of conservatives with which to start his rapprochement, guys so out of touch with the current Republicanism as to make them almost irrelevant.

The Obama message is a crafty one: He's choosing these fretting, parsing, neurotic, limp-wristed, desperate-to-be-liked print guys, over the crass, spitting, scary, voluble guys on television and radio, the Ailes-Rove-Limbaugh wing of the Republican Party.

Ailes, Rove and Limbaugh don't even count. They do not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as serious journalists.

I didn't thing I would live to see the day when I would defend George Will, strange times indeed!

Actually, being out of touch with the "current Repblicanism" makes them more relevant. The fact that Mr. Will didn't drink the kool aid served at the White House makes him far smarter than the knuckle dragging set at Faux news. While I don't agree with Mr. Will or Mr. Brooks on most things, they do bring something more to an arguement than "I'm made of rubber your made of glue, bounces off me and sticks to you!"

Kristol, Brooks and Krauthammer were the media wing of the neocon nightmare. They were agenda-driven and locked at the hip with their counterparts in the govt.

I think that if you are not intimidated by someone you have no problem with simply accepting an invitation to a meal. Obama is always thinking even while they are sleeping. While they hone their weekly appearance and recite claptrap repeatedly and often. PE Obama actually has to know alot about a myriad of issues with an in depth and accurate (as we know the repubs always have their radar out for "I gotcha moments) and he can speak on every one of these issues instantaneously.

He can and will run rings around these pseudo intellectuals. The oreillys, Limbaughs and hannity are not even worthy of his attention, they have been exposed for the poseurs they are.

Jeez! Sour grapes much? All I know is I am trying to follow the example set and reach out to others that I disagree with. My guess is that I will continue to be surprised that there is value there and that the act will enrich my life. How dull to always agree, no?

Conservative extremist views are exactly why voters are moving away from the Republican Party in droves. I would submit the Republican party has become narrow minded and devisive. We could be witnessing a geopolitical shift in the United States. In just the past two weeks, 4 Republican Lawmakers have publicly announced they will not seek reelection at the end of their current term.

Just as the Whig Party fell apart in the early 1800's, today's Republicans' are being pulled apart by extremist views based in greed, intolerance, and selfishness. Obama is reaching out to be inclusive of Conservatives. If successful, Obama's strategy would further relegate the Republican Party to the extremist fringe.

Where will they go? Disenfranchised Conservative Republicans could possibly look to Ron Paul and Company to start a new viable opposition movement. Who knows, only time will tell.
