I hope the guests at my party this weekend read this post. I just forwarded it to all my friends - hope that's not too obvious! These are such thoughtful gifts - makes me wish I invented them. Thanks, Michele!
Being a most welcome guest at a party is easy.
Show up fashionably late, bring great conversation to the table, and keep the party going all night. But to be that stand-out guest is all about knowing from the great hostess gift. Regardless of the occasion, there's no excuse to show up empty-handed. Especially when the most impressive petits cadeaux require the least amount of money and nothing perishable.
Here are some things that will help make you the guest of honor.
The latest trend seems to be bringing the art of conservation to the table. No need for heavy or fussy coffee table books. Instead put in the effort and put your favorite musings into a beautiful binder by Russell and Hazel. For example, these columns by Lesley M.M. Blume.

For the forward thinkers who get their gifts early, you can show off your own eye for artwork or authoring abilities with Blurb.com where you can create professionally quality magazine style ones. Or stick with the random stuff. Foryourparty.com allows you to customize coasters, matchbooks, napkins, or what have you.

Nature Calls is funny and damn useful at any shindig. It's a solution that you drop into the toilet before going to do your business that covers up nasty odors. Who doesn't appreciate that? For the less daring of us, candles are always lovely. The no-brainer is D.L. & Co. which you won't care when it burns out--after it's done, the lovely glass is designed to be used as vase or candy dish.

Stains, spills, or lipstick marks happen (or at least a the naughty soirees). The Laundress "On the Spot" Pack will give the host a cushion, if you will, to indulge in some of the fun. The Clean & Green Twist Clean-Up Set makes for another cool find, too.

Wine is such a bore. A Crystal Wine Saver stores up to a half a bottle of wine for months and ensures the host and hostess will save themselves a sip. Bling Water which is too ridiculous to resist. For something less loud, a floral tray is always a pleaser.

Bring Polaroid cameras and a Kolo book for guests to say thank you. Don't forget the tape and pens. Too much of an imposition? For something everyone wants in 2008...a Jonathan Adler's miniaturized elephant ornament as a symbol for good luck.
