Brokering a Solution for the Democrats in 2008

Posted: 01/29/07 07:10 PM ET

Democrats -- lose the theatrics and please put together a winning Team, one that can begin to rebuild the world's confidence in our country. We can broker a winning solution.

The specter of 2008 looms, and there is opportunity for new leadership with knowledge, experience and diplomacy at the top of the list of skills. The number one issue for this Presidential cycle is national security and regional stabilization of Iraq. Whether we want it or not, we are stuck. Iraq is the tipping point.

Are we propelling candidates to the front of the line without these skill sets?

Are we having a love affair with those that, although well meaning, do not have the experience to make the American people feel safe?

Are we again falling in love with rhetoric, not experience or action?

This is not a Hollywood movie! This is the reality of the last seven years. The entire Middle East region is in turmoil. Those that do not agree are ousted from the Administration, and the work of the Iraq Study Group has hit the trash bin.

As the line-up forms for the Democratic Presidential candidate - perhaps this is the time to keep certain factors in mind. We need a "bullet-proof" Team - one that knows foreign relations, has deep knowledge of global politics and can be respected by both the American people and this volatile region. There is opportunity for leadership; there is a hunger for leadership; there is desperation for leadership.

The World is looking toward this country for hope. They need to see another handshake on the White House lawn between the likes of today's Rabin and Arafat. They need a Team of global diplomacy and excellence.

The opportunity is ours for the taking. We can broker this. We can present a unified solution. Democrats, are we up for the challenge?
