Kay Hagan, the challenger for the US Senate seat held by Senator Elizabeth Dole, is a formidable contender. Now with the infusion of millions of advertising dollars from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, there is a real chance to recapture this seat. Surprisingly, Senator Dole has become a quiet voice in the Congress. Over the years, she represented the moderate Republican thinking, and I admired her for her dedicated work. One might not have agreed with her, but regardless she had strong opinions and was an agent for change.
Today, Hagan has many of these qualities of the early work of Dole. She is known for her strong bi-partisan work and most importantly, budgetary expertise. Kay is focused on the economy, health care, jobs, the war and energy. Kay is articulate, dynamic and not a rubber stamp. Rather she speaks up for her constituents and searches for solutions. In a reception for her in San Francisco, she engaged the audience for suggestions and answers to the energy crisis of this country, discussed energy subsidies, plug-in electric cars and a host of other possibilities. This is a candidate that wants to embrace the present and the future for her state and the American people.
