Can Software Bail-Out Unemployed and Troubled Companies?

Lemonade stands have always been the start of something big: the first glimpse of entrepreneurship and The American Dream! When I was 12, it wasn't lemonade but mistletoe picked by my six siblings and me that sparked my entrepreneurial spirit. I remember clearly the living room strewn with the holiday tradition as we stuffed $1, $3, and $5 sized plastic wrap tied perfectly with red ribbon that we sold door to door. We knew even at that age that options would be the best way to go and had a make shift scribbled out business plan complete with "sales territory" that was rotated so we could all get a piece of the action on the street with the fanciest houses. We were poor and dressed in thrift store clothes, but we were passionate about making money on our own dreaming of a brighter future. Today, with the economy is such a state of decay, I believe it is that spirit of living The American Dream that is going to lift us up and set our feet back on the path to success.

National unemployment is the highest we have seen since the mid 80's. Lines are excruciatingly long. It is nearly impossible to get anyone on the phone at the unemployment office as my brother reported stating he was on the line for 47 minutes with no luck last week while a recorded message kept repeating we are too busy to assist you at this time. What about businesses barely hanging on that need answers that will help them re-structure to survive? When deciding that I was going to take that big leap of faith into the ocean of self-employment as an adult I turned to my self-employment life jacket, Entrepreneur and CEO of JIAN Software, Burke Franklin, who has some solutions to the economic problems many are facing today.

When I was forced out of my 13-year banking career I used the opportunity to tap into my "mistletoe" entrepreneurial calling. Since I had only worked as an employee in part of a business, I needed to understand the entire business in order to start my own and needed a much more solid business plan than the one I produced on notebook paper as a kid. After researching the web and checking the reviews, I discovered JIAN's simple and effective Biz Plan Builder business planning software as well as their other easy-to-use tools designed to help individuals get started on the path to self-employment. As I used it, I learned not only the value of a solid business plan, but also was able to educate myself about the importance of thinking through my entire business from end to end -- on paper -- before I invested any money in equipment, advertising, etc. Even the financial model was easy enough to help me see and understand the costs, expenses, and potential profit. I began to sponge it up and gain the confidence I needed to take action towards living my entrepreneurial dream.

"Biz Plan Builder and our other Business Power Tools software tools help unemployed workers set up a business on a full-time basis," says Franklin. "It targets what we've called dislocated workers who need an alternative to looking for another job."

Franklin continues, "For entrepreneurs and business owners, it's a tool to help rethink everything about their business -- what makes money, what doesn't and how to reprioritize everything and re-structuring their current plan so they can rapidly make the right changes to stay profitable,"

Biz Plan Builder is geared for those that want to get started being their own boss during a recessionary period. It is during tough economical times that the American way, that entrepreneurial spirit, is sparked. For highly skilled people who have had good jobs with managerial or supervisory responsibilities like I had in Banking, this program can open the path to a bright future running a business of your own.

Since starting my own business, there has not been a moment of regret. That isn't to say there has not been times when things have been difficult and days that are long. When you go into business for yourself, you must be ready to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to be successful, get the word out and build your credibility in the area of expertise you have chosen. It is nice to know that there are tools like Jian's Biz Plan Builder and Business Power Tools designed to help you achieve your American Dream!

I say, instead of looking at your job loss as a crisis look at it as a "mistletoe moment," an opportunity to change course and start a business of your own.
