Remember back when Hillary
Talked of a right-wing conspiracy
But then it turned out not to be true
Just Bill doin' what he was wont to do
This time round its actually quite sick
Something worthy of an Ollie Stone flick
Even though debunked by Factcheck
Undoubtedly there will be tears from Glenn Beck
Did you catch Liz Cheney on Larry live?
Allowing the birthers' claims to thrive
Carville, quite exasperated on Mr. King
Telling us this is, indeed, a very "nutty thing"
To wit, the loon seen worldwide screaming at Mike Castle
Seems like that town hall was just not worth the hassle
She gesticulated and she screeched: "I want my country back!!"
Embittered and unmoored because our President is black
And G. Gordon spouting the other night on Hardball
Matthews adroitly avoiding an all-out brawl
Liddy quoting Grandma's statement that the birthplace was Mombasa
Nixon's former bud clearly in need of some Vinyasa
Then there's Dobbs sounding borderline demented
Saying our Commander may be undocumented
An anchor "still looking for validation"
Apparently enlisted by the zealots of our nation
Quickly followed Cohen's letter to the head of CNN
The SPLC pointing out Lou's at it again
While Jeffrey Toobin sagely called the birther claims "a joke"
Perhaps it's all a scheme to give Jon Klein a stroke
At first the prez of Cable News declared the story "dead"
But then did a 180 and said the host could go ahead
Retreating from his stance that there was "no legitimate beef"
How'd they manage to get to the Network's esteemed chief?
These diehards even Morning Joe did openly maroon
Scarborough equating them to something found in a cartoon
Fox's Michelle Malkin, surely not one of team blue
Rejects these "rabid" lunatics (and believes Trig is Sarah's too)
Perhaps these people can now find something else to do
Can't wait to see where next their venom they will spew
Maybe they can take a road trip up to Harvard Square
Then weave a tangled web and in it all good sense ensnare!

What a finely focused microscope you have here. Did you know that across the Atlantic these people are trying to convince us that Prince Charles and Dodi Al-Fayed were half brothers. Right, not really but makes just as much sense. Carry on. Job well done.
Loved this and Colbert's take on the birthers Monday night. You know you're in the right when Stephen and his "nation" agree. Keep it up--extremists beware!
The media is constantly complaining about "the media." They build the stories and the heroes...a nd then love to tear everything down. The 24/7 'news cycle' is a joke.
Thank you Michelle for this sharp commentary. Hope to continue to hear more (rhyming or not) from you.
Liz....com e back!! Where are you? It's been atleast one week! I miss you!!
If everyone in the media would stop talking about the "Birthers" they would go away. As long as cable news keeps it up it will be with us. Sort of like Sarah Palin.
The media help drive this foolishness by entertaining these idiots; and they do so believing it will have a negative impact on the President.
Anybody with common sense knows that when something has been proven, there is no need to revisit it, yet the media does just that. These kinds of pachydermatous people should be ignored.
What the media needs to do is expose these people for what they really are, RACIST, because this is the reality of the situation. These people who do not accept the truth are guided by hate and ignorance. That is what should be reported. Anything else is an insult to humanity.
During the democratic nomination process I was a big Hillary supporter and I was on here regularly arguing with Obama supporters over who should be our candidate. We all know how that turned out and true to my words then, once Obama got the nomination I supported and voted for him. The reason I mention this is because I remember having many arguments at that time with Obama supporters who claimed that the Clintons would just embroil the nation in a big sideshow. I argued at that time that the Clintons were victims of the conservative smear machine, and that they will do the same to Obama if elected.
Their goal is to keep the Democratic President embroiled in controversey thereby making him or her less effective, and souring the nation on that candidate for the next go round. The charges don't need to be real. If you make constant allegations, and make them loud enough something will stick with a certain percent of the population. After the birthers it will be something else. And if Obama wins in 2112, they'll keep going for another four years.
If anything good comes out of this I hope it is that some of the younger liberals who didn't experience the Clinton era as adults, will judge them less harshly. For my part I am going to ignore all the baseless accusations against Obama just as I did when the Repubs made them against Clinton.
You don't see Obama getting bogged down in all of this nonense - the media outlets and a select few of the GOPers are wasting their time with this madness. Obama is still pushing ahead with all of the things that are on his agenda, and we are left with useless news.
Spot on! I think even Nixon would have disowned the birthers. As for young Cheney and the rest of those who refuse to slap them down for this nonsense : shame.
Should she say Ta Da again?
Kudos to Toobin and the likes of him for saying it straight without fear of recrimination from the right. Are we surprised by Liz Cheney? Don't think so. G. Gordon Liddy in a Vinyasa yoga class--what a laugh that gave me. Thanks for incisive commentary and for adding a little levity to another insane topic.
in addition to the faux conspiracy claim about Monica, let's remember that Hillary also introduced the now classic "not as far as I know" qualification, when asked if Obama was Muslim.
Looks like Liz didn't fall far from the tree. This commentary really gets to the heart of the matter: Why are so many reluctant to stand up to the zealots even when all evidence is against their position. Bravo for voicing this in such a clever way!
Delete the word "Native" and insert "Naive".
When a story reaches certain dimensions it gets too big to just go away. This will have to be looked into further.
turtleglow and what needs to looked at further, that the republicans can't find a message to give the country, so a lie is just as good for them to spread, Mrs Palin told all of you to stop lying and i suppose she was talking about fox republican news when she said the media, and she also said stop making up stuff like fox republican news and she was dead on.
I agree. but not why you do. I think it's time to expose the n u t s for what they are. Yep, big R for them on their foreheads.
I agree! Let's start with the JeffGA nnon story and find out who he was entering from the rear over their desk in the whiteH ouse 5 years ago ...
camera footage anyone with access?
keeping americ anssafe - at least while he was busy in whoever in the white house?
Talked of a right-wing conspiracy
But then it turned out not to be true
Really?
It was true, and still is...the right wants to eff Obama over bigtime, as they did the Clintons, and will say anything, no matter how stupid or false, to trip him up.
FHTB that is what the republicans do well, fear and smear is the name of their game, when they are in office they break laws and start wars to make their friends richer, the last 3 out of 4 republican president have taken the constitution and the laws of the country and used it as tolit paper.
FHTB: she was obviously referring to Hillary's big appearance on Today where she talked of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" which supposedly fabricated the Bill-Monica Lewinsky affair. Obviously the right is out to shred any dem admin and this piece quite nicely makes that point (and with wit and humor I might add)
Of course there was a right wing conspiracy. Remember the rumors of the Clinton's murdering people? All lies started by the likes of Rove, Atwater, and Gingrich. How many billions was spent by Ken Starr for the American public to find out that Bill was only doing a mild version of the republican adultery dance? The right wing conspiracy lives on in the form of birthers, teabaggers, and palinistas. We are watching the decline of our civilization and the messengers are all comedians.
"IAGO:
I do beseech you—
Though I perchance am vicious in my guess,
As, I confess, it is my nature's plague
To spy into abuses, and oft my jealousy
Shapes faults that are not—that your wisdom yet,
From one that so imperfectly conceits,
Would take no notice, nor build yourself a trouble
Out of his scattering and unsure observance.
It were not for your quiet nor your good,
Nor for my manhood, honesty, or wisdom,
To let you know my thoughts"
