Awkward Family Photos: Easter 2012 Edition

Posted: 04/ 6/2012 1:22 pm

'Tis the season of pastel bonnets, painted eggs and normal-sized adults wearing giant bunny suits. Which can only lead to one thing -- very awkward family photos. The good news is that all those forced smiles and uncomfortable reactions are also excellent reminders of why spending time with children is almost always hilarious.

Scary. Perhaps we should expose children to slightly less frightening Easter mascots than giant egg-laying rodents with deformed heads. I suggest: the Seven Centurions, complete with dice, vinegar sponges, and seamless T-shirt; the Rolling Tombstone (Angel sold separately), the Doubting Tomcat (bloody paw included), Judas the Goat (30 coins included, not real silver), Punchy the Pilot (comes with Reversible Flight Toga and a pack of Sani-Wipes), the Good Thief ("He'll steal your heart!"), and the ever-unpopular Jewwhokilledjesus (just drop him in the included 4-oz. bottle of Final Solution and watch him disappear!).

Is supposed to be funny? Because it's not. It's in very bad taste.

I play Santa. Some family want to see the child cry for what ever reason. I never understood that. You would think if they waned a picture with Santa it would be of the child laughing or at least smiling.

I don't want to see my kids cry, but if that's what happens I will still buy the picture. It's a rite of passage,in a way...

Ok, here's my critique: Pictures 1 and 2 are typical attempts at posing for that time period (sigh). Picture #3 you can't tell if the bunny is emerging FROM the background or if it's disappearing INTO it ... strange. Picture #4 - did they make that costume a class project for 5th graders? Picture #5 would be kinda cute if the bunny didn't look angry. Picture #6 looks like they tried to save film by combining more than one holiday in one photo. What would they call it? "Christeaster"? I can't say anything about pictures 7 and 8, those are kinda cute, depending on your definition of cute. Picture #9 reminds me of the freaky rabbit head in the movie Alice that was on the Sci-Fi channel a few years ago, only that one wasn't fuzzy; not a cute bunny head at all. Picture #10 looks more like the Big Bad Wolf instead of the Easter Bunny, I'm surprised those kids aren't running for their lives! Both 11 and 12 look evil. And last but not least, picture #13 looks like mom just ate blueberry pie and ... what the heck is that thing in the background? This picture is strange to say the least.

Ok....the mascot costumes in these pictures are downright demonic looking...no wonder kids fear them and scream in terror. That being said; the dude in the pink long johns is just plain messed up... if he was my dad I would have run away in the opposite direction!

I don't get why parents have to terrorize a kid and sit them on a stranger in a huge weird bunny suit. and then tell them that this bunnny is going to break into their house and leave candy. I mean really how friggin weird is that.
01:16 PM on 04/08/2012
Well, the good news is that none of these pictures look any newer than 20 years old.
12:25 PM on 04/08/2012
I don't get picture #13...It has a christmas tree in it...
