Mike Smith has been the Las Vegas Sun’s editorial cartoonist since 1983. His work, which has appeared in

The New York Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post, is nationally syndicated by King Features Syndicate.

Smith came to the Sun after graduating from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in humanities. After seeking out Paul Conrad of The Los Angeles Times for advice, Smith began sending packages of his work to newspapers. Smith was the 2011 winner of The Best of The West award for editorial cartooning.

Smith, 53, grew up in San Francisco, the son of a lawyer and a psychiatric nurse. He is married with two young adult daughters.
