Why the RFK Assassination Case Must Be Reopened

Posted: 02/ 3/2012 3:48 pm

On February 1, 2012, California Attorney General Kamala Harris officially recommended that the latest appeal of Sirhan Sirhan, convicted in the 1968 murder of Senator Robert Kennedy, should be denied.

I respectfully disagree.

In 1997, I made a film called Voice of Dissent, arguing why the case should be reopened. Narrated by renowned historian Philip Melanson, the film examined controversies in the official account of the assassination that have endured since 1968.

One need not entertain strange-sounding theories about Sirhan Sirhan acting under mind control to acknowledge that there are, in fact, very serious and disquieting discrepancies in the forensic evidence of the case that must be resolved.

That is why I made my film, and was later involved in efforts to get the case reopened in the late 1990s.

I've always believed in Occam's Razor, the precept that the simplest explanation tends to be correct.

Sirhan Sirhan was caught at the scene with a smoking gun in hand. Eyewitnesses saw him fire it before he was wrestled down.

What else is there to say?

Let's start with a few facts not in dispute.

According to the LAPD's own account, Sirhan's gun held eight bullets, and he had no opportunity to reload. Robert Kennedy was hit three times and five other victims were each hit by a bullet.

That's all eight shots. Evidence of a single additional shot, therefore, would strongly suggest the presence of a second shooter.

Is there such evidence?

Yes.

Crime scene photos show investigators pointing to bullet holes circled in door frames and a ceiling panel. To explain their presence with seven bullets already recovered from the victims, the LAPD Criminologist on the case, DeWayne Wolfer, conjured up not one, but five magic bullets that ricocheted around the room.

Still think Sirhan as the lone assassin is the most plausible explanation?

Even if we accepted the presence of magic bullets, the official autopsy report, by Los Angeles Coroner Thomas Noguchi, found that the fatal shot was fired from a distance of one inch to contact from behind Senator Kennedy.

This is completely at odds with eyewitness accounts of Sirhan's movements during the shooting. Witnesses said Sirhan approached Kennedy from the front, and no witness placed Sirhan closer than 3 feet before he was brought down. Others claimed they saw a second shooter.

A disturbing record also survives of LAPD investigators pressuring witnesses into changing their stories or suppressing their accounts, and destroying crucial case evidence. Before Sirhan's trial even began, LAPD personnel on the case burned over 2,400 photographs from the crime scene and the investigation in a medical waste incinerator. Among those photos were the only pre-operative photographs ever taken of Senator Kennedy. Other physical evidence, including a doorframe with bullet holes, was also later destroyed.

These facts alone cry out for a new trial and a thorough new investigation of the case.

We do not yet know the full truth about the death of Robert Kennedy.

The case must be reopened.

According to Wikipedia, he was shot just after midnight on June 5. The primary after which he was shot took place on June 4, which is probably why people tend to think of it as the same day.

Also, just realized this after my first reply - your birthday is June 5, the day RFK was assassinated. Mine is November 22, the day that JFK was assassinated. Just a funny little coincidence. ;)

On the merits it sound plausible but the writer forgot to mention bullets fragment when they hit different objects of varying densities and strengths. I know this as a experienced marksman.

Mikko, thanks for shining a light, as always, in places people would rather not look. It is people like you this world needs more of.

Read "An Act Of State: The Execution Of Martin Luther King" by William F. Pepper.
The inconsistancies in testimony, the obvious evidence that was ignored and the disputed facts are incredible. The MLK assasination connection to the JFK assasination (Jack Ruby's Nightlub) is too big a coincidence to ignore, but the investigation did. The last-minute inexplicable moving of King & his family from the ground floor to a second floor room with a balcony? People on the balcony consciously moving away from MLK, seconds before the shot? The military crew on the roof across the street filming the whole thing and disappearing? A Taxi Driver whose testimony contradicted the official story - found dead?

It's probably too late in the game to find the real players & motives, but the assasinations of MLK, JFK & RFK are definitely linked: To each other and to organized crime.

"One need not entertain strange-sounding theories about Sirhan Sirhan acting under mind control."
If Derren Brown can demonstrate how it might be done. By hypnotically inducing Kamala Harris to unconsciously, but not fatally, replicate it

Rule # 21 of Investigations: If somebody wants you to "re-open" a case, and they have a pressing financial benefit to you doing so: Ignore them, but watch who they influence so you can ignore them as well.
Rule # 23: If the guy IS a patsy( and there IS a conspiracy behind him), then the guys who run the operation will either spring him, or KILL him as quickly as possible ( even in Prison) so he can't name names ( just like Jack Ruby hit Oswald). Sirhan is STILL drawing breath, and it ain't 'cause he's untouchable. Ergo: He's a solo hitter, and all the other stuff is incompetence , flavored with ego, served up VERY cold.
You would be AMAZED at the errors made in some crime scenes !

Dr Thomas Noguchi proved that there was only one person positioned to fire that fatal shot.

That person was Thane Eugene Cesar.

The investigation into J.F.Ks shooting is still not answered. It was obvious that he was also shot from the front. ( Grassy Knoll..)

I think there is little doubt that there is more to the RFK assassination then was presented, or told ….as with the JFK assassination…….

I don’t believe at this stage that reopening the case will bring any new convictions or conclusions…. Just more questions…… so why waste the time, money and effort…..there will never be complete justice

There are really too many more pressing and current cases to resolve…..you need a much stronger reason and arguments…..

The last news video of RFK before he was shot, shows Bobby finishing his "winning" speech and smiling and waving to his supporters. Then Bobby turns to his right and starts to leave the Ambassador Hotel the way he came in; from the front!
Suddenly a large, white man (LAPD?) physically blocks Robert Kennedy's path and points toward the kitchen. Kennedy pauses looks up at the man hesitates and turns around toward the "unsecured kitchen area" and his death
Who was that man and why did he stop RFK from using the "secured" front entrance ?

The fact that these men were murdered is hard enough to bear, the fact that it's pretty plain to see that there wasa coverup that continues to this day is unbearable.

"...to this day"... Proof they won : for a sorry, sorry while; only able to menace now.

Let it go.....if there was another shooter (which you are assuming) they are long gone and they will get theirs one day. We do know Sirhan unloaded his gun into that crowd, that is not in dispute. He is right where he belongs. Same goes with the JFK murder in Dallas.....they have argued that for almost 50 years now, and have come with no new evidence. Barring something new, Lee Harvey Oswald did it and did it alone. The government has spent enough money on both of the Kennedy murders, and nothing will bring either man back.
