I looked at the headline: "Administration Outsources Operations of Six U.S. Ports to the to the United Emirates." Then I looked at my calendar to check if I'd slept until Aprils Fools Day. Nope. It's not even Groundhog Day. This has got to be some kind of Joke.

But according to the New York Times and the Washington Post, it was true. In fact Bush, who has never vetoed anything during his presidency, was threatening to veto any bill from Congress blocking the sale of America's port operations in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia, to the government of a nation that has been a source of terrorist activity. Wasn't Halliburton available? Or are they too busy overcharging the US government In Iraq?

According to Think Progress,

--The UAE was one of three countries in the world to recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan.
--The UAE has been a key transfer point for illegal shipments of nuclear components to Iran, North Korea and Libya.
--According the FBI, money was transferred to the 9/ll hijackers through the UAE banking system.
--After 9/ll, the Treasury Department report that the UAI was not cooperating in efforts to track down Osama Bin Laden's bank accounts.

I guess this must be what Karl Rove meant when he said that Republicans have a post-9/11 worldview and Democrats have a pre-9/ll world view. Before 9/11, no one would have considered selling control of our ports to the United Arab Emirates. Post 9/ll the Republican Administration decides that now's the time. This must go along with their other post-9/ll ideas on national security such as only examining 3% of incoming cargo, not examining baggage in airplane's baggage compartments, not adding security to nuclear power plants, railroads and ports, bungling Hurricane relief in the New Orleans disaster, outsourcing the task of capturing Bin Laden at Tora Bora to Afghani warlords in order to free troops for a war of choice in Iraq built on lies and which has drained the treasury, and almost destroyed our armed forces.

This is some post 9/ll worldview. I guess this makes the Republicans strong on national security and defending us against terrorism, and the Democrats weak.
