Mitchell Beer, CMM is president and CEO of The Conference Publishers Inc. (www.theconferencepublishers.com), a firm he founded in October 1984. The company produces conference summary reports, Web portals, overnight newsletters, and other forms of electronic and print content for meetings and events.

A former member of Canada’s Parliamentary Press Gallery, Beer began his career as a staff reporter with the weekly Canadian Native News Service, then spent 3½ years as a reporter and editor with Canadian Renewable Energy News, a monthly specialist journal. As an active member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), he has developed interest and expertise in effective learning design for meetings and events, sustainable meetings and meeting facilities, strategic meeting management, and links between the meetings economy and host communities.

In 2007-2008, Beer served as project manager for MPI’s study of the economic impact of meetings and events in Canada. In 2008-2009, he co-chaired the programs committee for GMIC’s 2009 Greening the Hospitality Industry Conference.

Sen. Kerry needs a scalpel, not a hatchet.

Why would a supporter of an urgent economic stimulus package try to kill off an industry that delivers jobs and tax revenues to communities across the United States, including some of those that have been hardest hit by the mortgage meltdown?
