This is huge.
George Stephanopoulos flew off to Iran earlier this week and interviewed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The wide-ranging interview concluded with Stephanopoulos pushing the President to say whether his threats to destroy Israel will be rendered inoperative if the Palestinians and Israelis implement the two-state solution.
His answer is here. ALONG WITH FULL INTERVIEW TEXT.
This is a huge story. Kudos to George and ABC.

That's not what he said
He said he is fine with whatever the Palestinians ultimately decide
He also said the tactic for peace he favors isa free regional election.
This means you disband the Israeli and Palestinian governments and have a vote with both countries participating to elect representatives. These reps would then decide on what the constitution would be
We oppose that solution
I instinctively want to vomit every time I hear this man's name (Ahmadinejad). But, if he actually supports two-state then I guess I can say that I am in agreement with him. If only very briefly.

MJ, I couldn't find the transcript. But I can assure you that neither Ahmadinejad nor the Supreme Leader is anywhere close to recognizing Israel. Iran's whole foreign policy propaganda apparatus since the beginning of the Iranian revolution 30 years ago has been based on the recognition of the plight of Palestinians and opposition to Zionism. The current Iranian regime will never recognize Israel as a Jewish state.
Any details on the "Iran's whole foreign policy propaganda apparatus"?
Are you taking any bets? What odds are you offering?
It's a huge story but the media has been silent about it. I wonder why.
Because it is an old story. Iran's Presidents, and Foreign Ministers have said the exact same thing ever since 1979 revolution. I.e. whatever the Palestinians decide will be respected by Iran.
That's exactly what I have been thinking. They have been making this statement over and over again and so has Ahmadinejad in every single one of his interviews. Does it take 1000 repetition to finally understand what the Iranians are saying or is it just politically convenient to acknowledge it now?
