Mohammad Omar Sharifi is a graduate student at the Columbia University Department of Anthropology. He studied at the Medical Institute in Kabul University, then shifted to anthropology and got a Fulbright scholarship to study in the United States.

He worked in the Foundation for Culture and Civil Society, Open Media Fund for Afghanistan and as a research fellow with the American Institute for Afghan Studies.

He was born in Kabul.
