Titty Jokes and a Bush Smirk: it's the New John McCain

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

From Politico:

"...at a biker rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, John McCain appears to have volunteered his wife for a topless beauty pageant:
McCain felt so comfortable at the event that he even volunteered his wife for the rally's traditional beauty pageant, an infamously debauched event that's been known to feature topless women.
"I encouraged Cindy to compete," McCain said to cheers. "I told her with a little luck she could be the only woman ever to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip."
As a reader emails, "Miss Buffalo Chip has 'been known to feature topless women' in the same way that Guns and Ammo magazine has been known to feature firearms." Indeed, an ESPN.com columnist describes it as "occasionally bottomless."

I've written before about McCain's risque line-towing, but I'm wondering if new campaign advisor Steve Schmidt (who helped foster the "I'd rather have a beer with Bush" phenomenon in 2004 and made John Kerry French) has been taking McCain out to Hooters in Virginia Beach as part of message training.

Between the belligerent yodeling --"We have to drill here and drill now"--and offering up his wife for a cash prize I'm wondering if this is McCain's attempt to channel the elusive white male voter he so needs to win?

He might as well have called Obama a sissy when ridiculing Obama's suggestion of tune ups and tire inflation as a method of conserving energy. "We're not going to achieve energy independence by inflating our tires," McCain said. Yeah, and drilling here and now isn't the petrochemical equivalent of a Costco run either, Senator.

I think there was even a hint of the famous Bush "heh, heh, heh" as McCain laughed at the idea Americans might actually have to put in a little elbow grease to weather this economic storm.
McCain is embracing the worst kind of Bush-Cheney era affectations. For a man who knows sacrifice, and who built his entire career on the lessons learned of that sacrifice, it is heartbreaking to hear such demagoguery come from his mouth. For a man who is the father of daughters, well, again, what is he trying to prove and to whom? Nothing to women voters, that's for sure.

If O.bama had gone to the Players Ball, which is the "Urban" equivalent of Sturgis, you can bet that the media would be up in arms about this on what it means for American "Family Values" and how could a Presidential Candidate attend such an event. Blah! Blah! Blah!
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{

Again, I am not denying that.. I am simply saying that, HAD this occurred, the Left would be defending Obama and the event as no big deal..

True or False???

Granted, the wife and I are a little more discrete.. We keep her topless (and bottomless) antics confined to 4-5 couples tops...

Well, there was that one time.... but I digest...

The simple fact is, the is nothing but faux outrage that has it's basis in hypocrisy... Nothing more..

The problem with your logic is that Obama would never go to the Player's Ball.
JERK.

No, the problem is that this is a case of political hypocrisy and bigotry..

It is quite obvious you have never set foot in Sturgis, so just keep your jaded little opinions to yourself. You would not last 5 minutes at Sturgis Michale they do not take kindly to your kind I can assure you.

No, just realistic.
}}}}}}}}}}}

That is how the Right always explains away their bigotry...

}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
If he had offered Michelle to run for a topless beauty contest the sanctimonious right would have been completely outraged.
}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

And the Left would have been defending it as no big deal and wondering why the Right has gotten their panties so bunched up..

As I said... Hypocrisy at it's finest...

There IS no story here except the faux "outrage" of the Hysterical Left...

Unfortunately I think it is clear that McCain has always been cheuvenistic towards women. We don't know how his daughters were brought up. Well looked after I'm sure but perhaps to "know their place in a man's world". McCain I believe was often absent from home; Cindy remaining at home with the children while he spent most of his time in Washington. People think they know McCain but they have not bothered to find the real information that defines the real McCain.

Of course, there were NO topless women at Woodstock, right? :^/

This is simply faux outrage based solely on political pandering..

Nothing more..

The epitome of hypocrisy...

"The epitome of (rethuglican) hypocrisy..."

"Family Values". Yeah, right.

And Woodstock was in August of 1969. There wasn't a Presidential campaign going on and no Presidential candidate at the event. Your comparison is lacking...

Translation:

It's OK for the Left but not for the Right...

Gotcha...

If it had been Obama at Sturgis and the Right complaining about it, ya'all would have said, "eh, no big deal.. Don't get yer panties all twisted"...

Don't bother denying it, because you and I both know that would have been the case..

As I said.. Hypocrisy at it's finest..

It has become a tradition that male Republican politicians don't really like women. Some prefer congressional pages, while others prefer picking up policeman in public toilets. Then we have McCains transvestite pal in New York who is known for announcing his most recent divorce on TV, before he told his wife. It is no surprise to me, that "Blinky" McCain, who left his previous wife to marry the beauty contest winner, and beer heiress, Cindy McCain . Remember Newt Gingrich who asked his wife for a divorce while she was in the hospital. A couple of years ago we have also had a male hooker spending a lot of time at the White House. Maybe he was just coming to see Karl.

Senator McCain is absolutely absured. Imagine him being in the White House! I wonder what choice words Mrs. McCain told him later behind closed doors. Respectful he is NOT. "Get the bum outta here."

They are just hoping that with the success of No Child Left Behind and with friends like Roger Ailes, that Americans are more naive than they were four years ago.

I hope they are wrong.

McCain knows there is a segment of male society who will actually respect him for this kind of tough talk about women; and quite unfortunately, there are women who feel the same way... the kind of women who vote the way their husbands tell them to.

god knows, we wouldn't want to be labeled as "feminazis."
how did we fall to this level?

What's worse is it'll probably work. Generally (and metaphorically) speaking, men are pigs.

It may be the 21st century, but we still have a long way to go in educating our children about equality. Casual 'joking' misogyny is incredibly common.

Well between all the above, and McCain's pandering to the extremist wing of his party.......McCain has just about lost THIS white male voter for good.

I have long said that while I probably would not vote for him, that I retained great personal respect for McCain.

McCain's mean-sprited, often venal, and, perhaps WORST of all,............ downright FRIVILOUS campaign to date has solidified the former and is within an eyelash of ERASING the latter.

I've been deeply immersed in national politics for a LONG time.....and I've never seen anything worse.

And that's trumping some pretty big names in dirty politics including those of Rove, Atwater, and even NIXON!

Absolutely shameful...

Well, I'll give you this Tommy, you have a lot of patience. The straight talk express that many held in high regard ran off the road directly out the gate. It's now permanently on display at the infamous 'choke & puke' drive-in!!! The McCain campaign is the worst kind of pandering in history.

A copy of this should be sent to every woman's group across the country. Bulk mailed to the names on the lists of every woman's advocacy group. And be required reading for the PUMA "I'll vote for McCain" gals. (No - they should have to memorize it. And recite it before they vote.)

I don't really think of myself as a feminist. I'm not a card carrying member of anything. But basic decency, especially for a man speaking to a crowd of men about his wife, the mother of his children, would tell McCain that this was bad form. And for a man wanting to be President, basic political skills should have.

If he treats the country the way he treats his wife, Lady Liberty becomes Miss Buffalo Chip I guess.

What you have witnessed is the real John S. McCain. The McCain who loves to tell jokes about women being raped by gorillas, who tells ribald jokes about Chelsea Clinton and Hillary Clinton. This is the real John McCain who showed his lack of respect of women by the way he treated his first wife.
The real John McCain is such a misogynist that he calls his current wife a c&*t and trollope in public.
The real John McCain has so little respect for females that he has turned his back on his brown skinned adopted daughter in his quest to gain the support of "agents of intolerance."

Morra, the real John McCain has not been hiding he has always been the same. It's just now McCain's buddies in the main stream media are having a difficult time perpetuating the myth of McCain, due to YouTube and citizen journalists who blog in real time.

...(sounds of crickets)

Yup that John McCain sure does disrespect his women.
Now let's review presidential candidate John Edwards treatment of women.
Wife's home with cancer, John is out "respecting" her lot in life by fathering a child with his mistress.
The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
