She was Editorial Director at KPIX TV (CBS) in San Francisco prior to her emigration to Europe in 1991 when she was hired to teach television journalism at The Danish School of Media and Journalism
where she stayed until 2007. It was the Danish cartoon crisis of 2005
that turned her professional attention to Muslim cultures, Islamophobia and Muslim feminism more commonly known as "the gender jihad."
