Nancy Kanwisher is the Ellen Swallow Richards Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Kanwisher, who is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, uses magnetic resonance imaging to investigate the organization and function of the human brain. In the fall of 2002 she co-developed a web petition opposing the Iraq war, obtaining 30,000 signatures that included over 10,000 professors. She has also consulted on Iraq the Vote with its Executive Director, Professor Scott Plous, whom she has known since the 1980s, when both were MacArthur Foundation Fellows in International Peace and Security.
