NARAL Pro-Choice America's PAC endorsed Congressman Al Wynn (MD-04) because of his solid commitment to protecting and defending a woman's right to choose.
We are pleased that Donna Edwards is also pro-choice and thank her for her support of a woman's right to choose and her work on behalf of our Maryland affiliate. However, Congressman Wynn's consistently pro-choice voting record since his election in 1992 gives him the edge in our endorsement in this race -- and is why he's earned our endorsement in previous election cycles, too.
In the 15 years that he has represented his district in Congress, Congressman Wynn has voted pro-choice 126 times on 127 votes that dealt with women's reproductive health.
Some of those votes included:
o Voting against Bush's Federal Abortion Ban.
o Voting against Bush's global gag rule.
o Voting for the right of low-income women to obtain abortion care.
o Voting against legislation that would put a caring grandmother or clergymember in jail, simply for accompanying a young woman to the doctor for abortion services.
o Voting for the right of women in the military to obtain abortion care at overseas U.S. base hospitals.
o Voting to allow the FDA to approve the abortion pill RU 486.
o Voting to protect women from health-insurance companies and hospitals that try to deny them access to abortion care.
Congressman Wynn also is a sponsor of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and the Prevention First Act -- two bills that are important to NARAL Pro-Choice America and our members.
We stand with those who stand with us -- and Congressman Wynn has steadfastly done so during his 15 years in Congress. His voting record reflects his commitment to a woman's right to choose.
In addition to this endorsement, NARAL Pro-Choice America's PAC also endorsed and contributed to Congresswoman Niki Tsongas for a special election this year in Massachusetts' 5th District, making her the first woman to serve in that state's congressional delegation since 1983; Congresswoman Laura Richardson, a highly regarded and dynamic pro-choice leader who also won a special election in California's 37th District; and Mark Pera, a strong pro-choice challenger who is taking on entrenched anti-choice incumbent Dan Lipinski in Illinois' 3rd District.

Presumably NARAL was so thrilled with the results of its endorsement of HoJoe Lieberman in 2006 that they're sticking with Bush-friendly imperialist Democrats.
In the end, you can't avoid the forest fire by clinging more firmly to the trunk of your single-issue tree.
This kind of endorsement just means that I will no longer pay any attention to NARAL' endorsements. You have made yourselves irrelevant in the political calculus. And I strongly suspect you don't even know why.
