Did you miss the old McCain campaign? You know, the no-chance, hard-luck, dottering campaign of summer 2007. When so few voters would show up at his rallies that McCain would have to resort to this for attention? McCain's campaign had sunk to such lows of popularity and possibility that I started feeling sorry for it: "Aww, what a cute campaign with your soft-spoken 'straight talk.'" Well, for all the campaign shake-ups, increased staff, and spending power that came with beating out a shockingly more hapless GOP primary field, it turns out that feeble campaign was lurking just beneath the surface this whole time, threatening to reemerge.
Apparently, McCain's campaign is as bad at adapting to new (and possibly unforeseen) circumstances as McCain is at adapting to new technology. Case in point, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds' cringe-worthy defense of Sarah Palin's readiness to be Commander in Chief on CNN, Monday night. The McCain campaign's unforgivable sin was not being unable to adequately defend Palin's qualifications for the vice presidency, but rather its defense of Bounds' inadequate defense, which amounted solely to attacking CNN and Campbell Brown for, you know, doing her job.
Had the McCain campaign let the embarrassment blow over, revised its talking points, and come back with a retooled message, Bounds' epic fail wouldn't have made it past Monday's news cycle. By improperly blaming CNN and Brown, however, the McCain campaign succeeded in drawing more attention to Palin's inexperience than it ever would have by keeping its collective mouth shut. In fact, we wouldn't be discussing that clip right now, and you wouldn't have the chance to watch this must-see debacle again right here:
With all the talk about vetting (or apparent lack thereof) in the McCain campaign, it's no surprise that the campaign didn't even bother to vet its response to CNN. Playing the victim and going so far as to counterattack by pulling out of McCain's scheduled appearance on Larry King Live did them no favors. CNN has played Bounds' pathetic defense of Palin throughout the day, Tuesday, and even discussed it during the analysis of night two of the Republican Convention while they might have otherwise been discussing Fred Thompson's phlegm-filled exposition of John McCain's biography or Joe Lieberman, doing his best Zell Miller impersonation.
So, welcome back floundering McCain campaign of last summer! We missed you. I trust that this episode is in no way indicative of the sort of preparation and governance that we could expect from a McCain administration.

I know this is old, but on the chance you might see it. Go Campbell, maybe journalism isn't dead.
Sarah Palin reads very well. No, I mean she READS very well. Her speech focus on so-called experience should backfire soon. Not only do the facts state that she mismanaged and manipulated during her terms as mayor and governor, the reality is that McCain has no more EXPERIENCE than Obama or Biden. But just like Bush, more smoke and mirrors to get you focused on anything except the issues. The notion that "she's hot" may get the non-thinking male vote, but will do little to help you as she continues to support big business and pork barrels. Hasn't anyone found it strange that she has yet to be interviewed? Oh, that's right, to ask her questions is just sexist and offensive. .huffingto npost.com/ e-joyce-mo ore/mccain -is-sudden ly-camera_ b_123678.h tml

the mcain camp don't think she is ready to be interviewed by the media..... lol.....ju st the highly scripted discourse that will prevent her from making a gaffe....! !!
McCain and Palin can't beat the media too. They act as they are in a war with fellow americans. Just divisiness, pure hatred and vitriol. This will backfire on them. Too many people are hurting, we don't want this divisive Karl Rove, Right Wing Crap. And if anybody in rural america falls for this, if you think you are poor now, just look back in four years if you vote these 2 in office. Not to mention reinacting the draft to take your sons and daughters away from home. So I guess she is going to kick everybody's behind in Washington, Kick the media to the curve, but somehow she will be respected to work across party lines. She just disrespected every potential colleague she might have to work with. This dog won't hunt. You havent' seen community organizing yet. See you on Nov 4.
There is a Shakespearean aspect to watching the many ways in which John McCain's disfiguring lust for power has so completely consumed him, as he realizes that he is aging out of history.
Seriously. ..compare the two campaigns. .. if they would run the country they way they run their campaigns. ..which would you rather have running this country?
Palin brings more lies and abuse of power history to the republican party. McCain's temperament is bad enough without adding a 'bulldog/barracude hybrid to the ticket'.
McCain Palin bring extreme beliefs to the table on abortion, birth control, and sex education.
No more lies!! No more abuse of power!!
Enough!!
Hard to understand why he would try to fight a war on two fronts, against Obama-Biden and the media. I know this is supposed to gin up their base. But I think it's suicidal. Especially because the media will now really be motivated to do the job it should have been doing all along in covering McCain.
yup!!!! hopefully no more free passes for mccain!!!
we have the internet to thank for the turning tide in politics , no more do we have to read one sided journalism, the right has had its own way for too long, the self righteous fundamentalists have had their day, the repubs use them as a tool to get people to feel guilty if they step out of line ,their line that is. sarah palin would put the womens right movement back to the 19th century, im not a great feminist
but i admire the women who are not afraid to stand up to others who think they know best how women should run their lives, when things go wrong for repubs they blame everyone but themselves, and they are the biggest muckrakers in america, they are the HA HA people when critisizing the left ,but the victims when they are critisized themselves ,see how mc cain acts when the boots on the other foot, temper temper. mc cain has made a really poor decision in choosing palin and will have answer for it , palin is not the problem , but she is not the answer either.
Well, I am convinced: John McCain is ready on Day One -- to be George W. Bush.
This just in from Huffington Post.com's Seth Colter Walls:
.huffingto npost.com/ 2008/09/03 /palinss-c ommander-i n-chie_n_1 23516.html
"Palin's 'Commander In Chief' Position Stripped By Bush"
"U.S. governors were stripped of crucial discretion over their National Guard units at home for a good part of Palin's first term....A clause from National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 amended the Insurrection Act, handing President George W. Bush expanded power to declare martial law and take over Guard troops without a governor's assent. Passed by the Congress and signed by the president more than a month before Palin took office in December 2006"

It seems to me McCain is whacking off his nose to spite his face, and with his usual petulant, adolescent narcissism, thinks he is somehow punishing CNN/LARRY KING for not getting THAT FREE VERY WATCHED TIME on the air.
.......... ... oh ....WAIT ...... we HAVE this NOW!
It's childish and self-defeating.
I also read he is considering dropping out of one of the scheduled debates because Tom Brokaw is a moderator and widdle Johnny doesn't wike him.
Image this behavior in a President ..........
Wow. Tom Brokaw is obviously quite conservative. If he's not biased enough for McCain, what must McCain think of one of the few remaining anchors who genuinely strives to be impartial - Jim Lehrer?
No wonder he wanted to stick with a bunch of "town hall meetings," especially since, as we've learned from his campaign people, he can't be held accountable for anything he says at town hall meetings.
Journalism once again sighted.
The day was windy, the weather mild. We saw the majestic journalism peak over the waters and scatter its radiance into the sunlit sky. As quickly as it came, it left. No one knows when we will see it again, but my companions retain hopeful of its return.
Myself, I am not so optimistic.
Good for your companions. Hope may not seem like much, but it's a prerequisite for getting anywhere you want to be. If you don't even have hope, you're not going to put in the effort required to get there.
Phelm- filled!! LOL!! I was thinking of Foghorn Leghorn when I hear Thompson.. .
..it is so good to be here...whe re's muh mint julep? And speakin' of juleps, Joe Lieberman will be out here in a moment - just don't drop any change (laughter) ..jest kiddin' folks..how about our little gal Sarah...ai n't she a darlin?"
"Muh fellow Americans.
Perhaps after she has been packing back to God's country we better be prepared for Palin and the Alaskan Independce Party to declare war on the lower 48.
Umm Senator McCain...W hat Campbell Brown did is called JOURNALISM!!! She asked a simple question. Unfortunat ely...Tuck er did not know how to answer, then he deflected, got insulted and complained ...I guess that's called BEING A REPUBLICAN!
