Jon Chattman

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Taking in the "Antithesisness" - Ting Tings Get "Wrong" while The Suffers "Make Some Room"

Jon Chattman

There have been so many amazing covers in music but perhaps the best of all-time is Charlie Day's coked out cover of The Ting Tings' "That's Not My Name" in the 2011 comedy Horrible Bosses.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: Beyond 'Dangerous': Joywave and Big Data Discuss Their Crazy Good Debuts

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.29.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

We live in an EP, YouTube ready, and singles only -- and I mean that in music terms -- world. So, when artists emerge with not just a full-length album but an amazing one at that, you have to figuratively hug the living crap out of it.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: The Elle King and I

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.22.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Elle King is one of the most buzzed artist in music today, and listen to her for a word or two, and you'll let out a big "no duh."

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Blitz Kids' "Keep Swinging"; Emily Hearn Set to Erupt

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.20.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Blitz Kids Since the release of their recent Red Bull Records debut The Good Youth, the band have collected more buzz than your large-and-not-quite-in-charge frat brother on a bender.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: It 'Never Gets Old' with Penguin Prison; 'Something Good' with Dead Sara

The genre-bending Lost In New York -- a follow-up to his much-loved self-titled debut -- pays homage to all of NYC today and yesterday, and features the new single "Never Gets Old," and a bunch of tracks that will make you wish you had even a smidgeon of his talent.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Ride the Retro and 'Trip Into' Jeremy and the Harlequins

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.10.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

If there were a GPS that directed you to ultra-cool rockers based in New York City, you'd likely be directed immediately to Jeremy and the Harlequins. Obviously, I say that s assuming you've updated your satellites.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: 'Lovin' On' Cary Brothers; Recruiting Ex-Cops

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.06.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

It's hard to believe Zach Braff's outstanding coming-of-age flick Garden State is approaching its 11th anniversary. This A) makes me -- probably you -- feel old but B) makes me gleam from ear-to-ear because the film as well as its classic soundtrack still hold up and carries the same weight it did in 2004.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: April's 5 For Fighting With... Five for Fighting; Baby Got Nickelback's Bassist Mike Kroger

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.01.2015 | Entertainment

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Bleachers' Jack Antonoff's "All in on Everything"

Jon Chattman | Posted 03.30.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

"I never would mess around with peoples' emotions and put music out that didn't mean everything to me. It's just not what I do. I can't make records quickly. I can't do stripped down live shows. I'm all in on everything."

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: You Should Know... Karen Pittman

Jon Chattman | Posted 03.26.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Karen Pittman has stolen so many scenes, she should've been locked up years ago. I mean that figuratively, and man that opening line, which is still going on by the way, was pretty lame.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Brian Wilson and the Summer of 2015

Jon Chattman | Posted 03.25.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

The album and the tour combined with an upcoming bio-flick entitled Love & Mercy based on Wilson's life is truly making 2015 the Summer of Wilson. The film spans the icon's life and he's portrayed by two gifted stars portray him: Paul Dano and John Cusack.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: Shaggy Is the Real 'Mr. Worldwide'

Jon Chattman | Posted 03.12.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Talk to reggae icon Shaggy for three minutes or less, and you'll realize three things: A) he never stopped making music despite terrestrial radio in the states cutting his airplay B) his charity work will always come first, and C) he doesn't care about "A."

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: "Come" and Go with KONGOS; Soak in the Sun With Freedom Fry

Do you remember those old commercials where off-beat salesmen ramble on about their item that does it all or simply "slices and dices?" No? Well, watch this and you're welcome.

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.29.2015 | Entertainment

The Jack Moves are a soul-pop group out of New Jersey that are too cool for school. The cool kids, founded by Zee Desmondes and Teddy Powell, are an emerging neo-soul act that evoke sort of a modern Jamiroquai vibe.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: 'Then Came...' The Lone Bellow

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.11.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

The "sophomore jinx" thing is very real. Arthur 2: On the Rocks immediately comes to mind for some unexplainable reason, but I'll deal with that on my own time and perhaps with my therapist.

A-Sides With Jon Chattman: So Far From Fletcher, Coming Full Circle With Whiplash Oscar Favorite J.K. Simmons

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.17.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Growing up a fat kid in Yonkers, NY (that'd be the title of my autobiography by the way), my number one way to escape the middle school jerks and the growing waistline was going to the movies. I would see two each weekend.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: Hey Look! It's Another Guy Predicting the Oscars!

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.17.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Which brings me to my point - 2014 was just an incredible year for acting and directing - we were bound to be letdown come Oscar morning when the bottomless snubs came. I still can't believe the Academy snubbed Babs for The Prince of Tides again.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: Dø the Right Thing

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.13.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Toddlers and runny noses. Beck and artistry. Taylor Swift and awkward award-show courtside dancing. Yep, some things just effortlessly go together. Take the Franco-Finnish duo The Dø who are about to have their "damn right" moment.

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: Welcome to Rixton's 'Hotel Ceiling' -- Such a Lovely Place

Jon Chattman | Posted 04.11.2015 | Entertainment
Jon Chattman

Ariana Grande seems to be everywhere. She's got more singles out there than a J-Date mixer, just showed up on The Grammys, and I hear Starbucks will soon introduce the Ariana Grande-sized latte. OK, that last statement is a lame sense of humor, but let's face it the 20-something hottie is all over the place and deserves it.
