Acorn Home Defenders

A Center for Constitutional Rights lawsuit seeks to stop Congress from singling out an organization for punishment without proper investigation or due process.

For years Republicans accused ACORN of corruption and used phony tapes to lead an effort to successfully strip the group of federal funding in 2009. Now, months later, the group has been exonerated from any wrongdoing.

The attack on ACORN isn't about fighting corruption. If it was, then dozens of corporations with federal contracts far larger than ACORN's would be under investigation now.

The right goes after the left's most effective groups. Because ACORN does not rely on government funds the organization will survive the orchestrated attacks against it. But if it's to restore its strength, it needs progressive support.

What the mainstream media missed in their stories last week about Karl Rove's involvement in the firing of US Attorney David Iglesias is that the former Bush advisor was specifically targeting ACORN.
