My childish, playtime fantasy was freighted with a strange power. This was more than playing Batman and punching invisible enemies in the stomach. I wanted in a deeper, more slavishly yearning way to be Sinbad the Sailor.
So many people associate these scaled-down toys with playtime (or geekery), which is unfortunate to say the least. (I might be biased, since I have dozens...and dozens.) But in the spirit of this column, I'm finding new ways to use action figures in the home.
With The Dark Knight, we get such a boundary-breaking piece of pulp whose noir is so effective that, we most likely will see comic books and their relative movie and TV franchises adopt an even darker tone.
