Thinking about what life was like 10 years ago makes my heart melt. It was such an awesome time. So young and in love. Two years without kids. I want to go to there. Things were so different back then. I love thinking of the old us 10 years ago. So many dreams for the future. And hope. So much damn hope.
We're tempted to believe that the great and valuable things of life are somewhere "out there." But more often than not, the priceless pearls of our lives are hidden in the open -- the greatest treasures of our lives are things like home, family and dear friends. With that in mind, I made this video for my wife to celebrate our anniversary.
This is a speech I gave last year at a high school where students raised funds to help flood victims in central Vietnam. As the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War is coming up this April 30, 2015, I am posting it to commemorate the date. It will also mark my 40th year in America, having fled Vietnam as a child two days before the war ended.
