WASHINGTON -- There are no atheists in foxholes, the saying goes. Republicans in Congress don't want them in the military chaplain corps, either.
Chaplains have direct access to our troops, as they are experiencing trauma, whether it be sexual trauma or the result of a physical injury on the battlefield.
There's an atheist chaplain at Stanford. This is good news. John Figdor has a degree from Harvard Divinity School and he does what chaplains do. He counsels those in need and visits the sick.
