While I am certainly grateful for the things in my life (healthy children, a home, education) I actually feel a deep loss now that I am back from Bhutan and am more inclined to purge my life of things that are the source of negativity and burden.

While families often did stay together, friends were dispersed when the relocation to the U.S. took place. In addition, many of the Bay Area's original Bhutanese refugees have left the area because of the high cost of living and high unemployment rate here.
