Bill of Rights Day

The first ten amendments to the Constitution that guaranteed the rights of citizens were ratified on December 15, 1791. Many of those rights are now in jeopardy following the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act.

If we want to have a Bill of Rights Day worth celebrating, we must demand that officials at all levels respect our freedoms -- and not let the government get away with abusing them.

Two hundred twenty years ago today, on December 15, 1791, something happened that changed history forever. Virginia ratified the Bill of Rights, which, as the 10th state to do so, made it part of the Constitution.
