Last night's debate was supposed to be on foreign policy. However, both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama decided fairly early on that the differences between the two policy-wise were pretty small, so they both decided to hijack the foreign policy debate and instead the debates on the economy.
Monday's debate may be the largest American audience to pay attention to the subject of drones strikes that are done in their name. That is, if moderator Bob Schieffer dares press the candidates on what may well be the most ominous power a president has: choosing who to kill.
Spitzer & Matalin agree that Obama "won" the second debate on style/theatrics but they split on substance -- polls show Romney had edge on jobs while Obama scored TKO on "acts of terror" counter-punch. Then: the two 'drill down' on Women, Economy & Turnout.
Why must debate moderators always be Washington TV journalists? They're trained to ask questions and probe evasions, but do they focus on the right topics? The lack of diversity is best measured not by ancestry or gender, but by life experience.
I know the Obama campaign gets it, otherwise they wouldn't be where they are now, running ahead of their opponent for a second term in the White House. For that I'm thankful. But today we learned that there are still some Democrats who don't get it.
