I have finally pinpointed why this pink month drives me crazy. It's because of its failure to understand what all of this awareness does to breast cancer's most silent victims -- women that live with the threat of breast cancer hanging over their heads. Women like me.
I encourage all women to wear pink this month in support of our sisters who are living with or have conquered breast cancer. Make living healthy, practicing self-love, and keeping yourself "in the pink" a priority this season!
I guess since we're members of a club we never wanted to join, we deserve to have our own secret language. Or maybe it's simply because there are literally no words in the dictionary to describe some of the unique experiences that come along with a cancer diagnosis in this modern age.
While I admire how these "pink" marketing efforts have raised awareness and removed a little bit of the stigma that goes along with discussing cancer, I feel they have, to a certain degree, over-simplified a very serious topic.
