Whitman is on the board of directors of Summit Public Schools, a private charter school organization in Silicon Valley, and Summit is proposing to start a charter school in the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
Whatever your feelings on charter schools, simple fairness should cause all of us to worry. When the Legislature can use kids as political pawns to further their narrow political interests, you have to wonder where it will stop.
Both President Obama and the California State Board of Education must enforce civil rights policies. And they should also fairly consider other school choice options, instead of just focusing on charters.
