The Internet allows us to live increasingly fractured, niche, performed lives -- no matter how consistent, we develop varied personae on social media, dependent upon the form -- but they are still our lives.
We have seen beheadings, murders, the trading of men and women for profit and gain, and yes, we have seen the rape of women. Yet, somehow this rape sticks with me more than the others. I am trying to tease out why.
Then there's "poor old" Edith who loses her cousin-boyfriend on the Titanic in episode one. It's all downhill at Downton from there. She follows men around like a puppy, only to get rejected. Dumped by a burn victim, ditched at the alter, and crushing on a married man, Edith is sad sack.
