As the saying goes, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Unfortunately, that saying does not bode well for the thousands of children who will be displaced when 54 schools shut down this year.
Education has always been an affair of "the heart," not "the head." Perhaps society has imposed a school reform experiment devoted to remediating academic weaknesses because we dare not confront the emotions of Harper High School.
Even the national media has taken notice of the disastrous upsurge in Chicago youth violence.
But charter schools may not be the answer. They don't equate with quality, and some communities believe they actually increase violence.
