The Joshua Duggar controversy is one of dozens of scandals that have emerged from within conservative Christianity. In the midst of the tidal wave of scandal, we must ask whether these situations are a matter of coincidence or symptomatic of a larger issue with the religious system in which they are occurring?

Yesterday, the UN Dispute Tribunal lifted the suspension of Anders Kompass, the senior staff member at the OHCHR who transmitted allegations of pedophilia by French troops in the Central African Republic to the French police. The decision shows that the grounds for placing Kompass on leave are bogus.
On the one hand, we lift up and celebrate the non-violent legacy of Dr. King. On the other, we want to know why aren't there more mothers, like the one in the video, willing to beat their children into submission.
