Nearly 50 percent of the students enrolled in America attend community colleges. Isn't it time that somebody thought about how best to prepare these students to meet their goals and workforce needs? Perhaps we should begin first by asking the students what they need most.
Applying for transfer admission is an undeniably grueling process, but can also be a tremendously enlightening one. It forced me to reflect deeply on all the things I'd done "wrong" or inadequately the first time around.
A few of the more thoughtful institutions are beginning to discover that transfer students can not only supplement and complete a class but also that they can be a fundamental building block in the design of a class.
