It's been said of late that civility has been lost in politics. Maybe it never existed in politics to the extent we think it did. There has always been rancor and debate. There have always been cantankerous adversaries. But this year the mud-slinging seems a little more indulgent or shall I say self-indulgent?
At the end of the day, dodging the question just means that our kids are going to hear about Bruce Jenner from someone else; most likely an ill-informed classmate on the playground. Better we show respect for our kids by keeping it simple and speaking the truth, just as Bruce Jenner has finally and admirably done.
I've been paying close attention to the events in Colorado in which students and faculty members of Jefferson County high schools have been protesting the formation of a curriculum review committee that would require students to learn a sanitized version of history that encourages blind patriotism and discourages any sort of protest.
